A warm welcome to this artistically decorated country house in rural East Lothian awaits you. Set in peaceful gardens 1.5miles from Haddington; within a half-hour journey to Edinburgh; beautiful beaches, golf courses and wild-life within easy reach
This booking is for a double-bedded room accommodating 2 people. We have another Double-bedded room (£50/night) and a single room £35/night with single bed (which can be extended to an additional bed e.g. for a child), so check our other listings if you are looking for more people to stay together or just send an enquiry. This is a beautiful rural location in a detached house surrounded by a colourful cottage style garden, with fantastic amenities within easy reach including easy access to Edinburgh and all that it offers including the International Arts and Film Festivals in August. Continental breakfast included or full Scottish breakfast by arrangement for an extra charge. Afternoon tea on arrival with home-made scones and jam. Cot and high-chair available by arrangement for babies. There is also a sitting room for your use withTV and tea and coffee making facilities.
Sea side and beaches 4 miles away; lovely villages by bus or car; fantastic golf opportunities; many places of historic interest; easy bus access into central Edinburgh; great wild-life including a seabird centre at North Berwick; Boat tours around local islands.

  • I decided to go on a little cycling trip by myself last week end and unfortunately was not very lucky with the weather. I arrived at Fiona's completely drenched and exhausted. Fiona and her husband welcomed me with open arms, a cup of tea some homemade scones and a nice warm bath. I could not have asked for better hosts - and despite the unlucky conditions of my cycle trip, my stay with them really made everything better. Could not recommend enough.

    No.1 @ Orchard House Chalets offers competitively priced furnished accommodation with spectacular views. Enjoy the tranquillity, or walk into Haddington town centre and we are also close to Edinburgh. This self catering en-suite double Chalet has a kitchen area. (Family Chalets also available.) Long or short term visitors are welcome at our smallholding where they can see the horses, hens and our sheep. * Please note: We do not have gas and therefore don’t need carbon monoxide detectors.
    Towels and bed linen are provided. Our double bed has a king size duvet for extra comfort. The kitchen has a work-top electric double ring cooker with oven and utensils to meet most cooking needs. The bathroom has a shower enclosure with an anti-slip mat for your safety.
    Orchard House Chalets caters well for walkers, cyclists, fishermen and golfers. There is a good walk from our Chalets into Haddington via the River Tyne. We can provide walking maps. Fishing is by permit on the River Tyne which is ten minute walking distance from our Chalets. Permits can be bought at Mains Saddlers in Haddington. There are plenty of golf courses nearby including Haddington Golf Club which we are members of.

Haddington is the ideal location for visiting Edinburgh, playing golf in East Lothian, exploring superb beaches and hill walking in the Lammermuirs, as well as the North Berwick Seabird Centre and the John Muir House.   • Een gezellig huisje in een woonwijk net buiten het centrum. Iets te ver om te voet te doen, maar heel rustig. Er is een aparte badkamer en een aparte frigo, en de verhuurster was nauwelijks aanwezig, dus je hebt privacy. De woonkamer is gemeenschappelijk, er is televisie met veel dvd's (al hebben wij geen tv gekeken). Ontbijt is ok, veel cornflakes, havermout,wit toast brood en verschillende soorten confituur. Geen beleg of volkorenbrood, maar wel eitjes om te koken of te bakken. Over het algemeen een superleuke locatie en zeker een aanrader!

  • Hannah's home is in a lovely neighbourhood and with the charming & cheap JT taxis you get everywhere. Hannah and Liam provided us with everything we needed and even had a big breakfast variety prepared for us. The room and bath are cozy (best bed ever!! ) and both helped us kindly with getting to know the area. Haddington is beautiful. Thank you both for a wonderful stay!   • We really enjoyed our stay at Hannah's. The room was very clean and spacious. We had a private bathroom and a seperate fridge where we could put our own stuff which was really nice. Hannah provided us with a lovely breakfast every morning. Haddington is a 40 min bus drive away from Edinburgh city centre but the busses come regularly. We would definitely recommend this place!

The place was spotless and charming and quite comfortable. Hannah also went above and beyond to accommodate our needs, as we unexpectedly added a third person to our party at the last minute, but she very graciously offered her spare bedroom to us. And, we were so pleasantly surprised to have a light breakfast available for us in the morning. An A+ Airbnb host and experience all around!

    The house is in a quiet spot, but very close to the centre of Haddington. You will be on the ground floor which comprises a stylish large open plan kitchen/living room with oak frame extension, stove and TV, where you are welcome to relax,enjoy and share the amenities.
    Your room is on the ground floor as is a wet room which you can have sole use of during your stay. The communal kitchen/living room is open plan with a large island which could be used as work-space . You are welcome to use the facilities for tea/coffee/breakfast and to relax in the communal living room. I have an affectionate medium sized dog and therefore if you do not like dogs, this is not the place to stay for you. There are front and rear gardens where you are welcome to sit in warmer weather. Smoking is not acceptable in the house and please dispose of ash/butts if you wish to smoke in the garden.
    Haddington is an old market town, which is peaceful with a lively sense of community. There are number of lovely cafe's, a range of restaurants, carry out restaurants and bars, all within easy walking distance. There is a lovely river walk nearby. We are in the middle of fine golfing country with a range of beautiful East Lothian beaches and towns within short driving distance and only 15 minute drive to the East side of Edinburgh.

    Welcome to our cozy, 18th century, single-story cottage with woodburning stove, dog-proof garden, lots of privacy and free parking. With easy access to the amenities of a town as well as the beautiful East Lothian countryside, this is the perfect place to get away from it all for a few days. Or if you are in the area for longer and are looking for a homely base that's a commutable distance from Edinburgh, this might be right up your street!
    Make yourself at home! The cottage has two bedrooms, a sitting room and a kitchen. Outside there's a bright patio, a large garden and private parking. The rooms are small but the place is well set out and comfortable. Perfect for a weekend getaway or perhaps a longer let for someone working nearby.
    Haddington is a charming little market town with a real mixture of people. It's very friendly and laid back.

    Our house is situated in the centre of Haddington. The house itself is over 120 years old but was completely renovated in late 2015. The property is cosy but well laid out and fully equipped with everything you need to have a comfortable stay.
    Open plan living space with plenty of room and a well equipped kitchen.. The main bedroom has a king size bed and the second bedroom has a double
    Haddington is the main administrative, cultural and geographical centre for East Lothian, The population is around 10,000 so it's relatively peaceful but there's also plenty to do in the town and nearby. We have two large supermarkets, a few pubs, cafes and restaurants and great scenery. Within 5 minutes walk you can be in the countryside without another person, house or car in sight. There's a farmers market on the last Saturday of every month where the local pipe band play... The town is really well situated for visiting Edinburgh, North Berwick, Gullane, Dunbar, East Linton and all the other small towns and villages that make up the area.. Oh, did I mention the beaches? We're close to some of the best beaches in the region. Gullane, Belhaven, Tyninghame, Seacliff, Thorntonloch, Yellowcraig and Whitesands are all within 30 minutes drive.

  • Ange's place is a little outside the town/village of Haddington, a small double room in a family house with 3 other people (at my time of stay) and a gorgeous dog with a love for chewed cuddly toys. I agreed to arrive by 9pm not knowing the host would not be there and out the whole night until 7am. I found this situation a bit uncomfortable, as I didn't meet anyone in the house neither before I went to bed nor before I left in the morning. Albeit I heard them moving around the house both late at night and early morning, as the bedroom is located between the front door and the kitchen and near to the stairway. Ange left out a simple breakfast in the morning, which was a nice gesture. Overall Ange's place felt like a place to lodge, it was functional and provided the basics of a comfy bed and a hot shower. However, the price is high for what is being offered and the lack of personal interaction reduced my comfort in staying in a family home.

Ange was very hospitable and offered me tea on arrival which I was happy to accept. I had a lovely breakfast left ready for me the next morning and having mentioned I was Gluten Free there was GF bread left for my final morning's breakfast which I thought was so thoughtful and kind. I found the bed very comfortable and slept well. I would thoroughly recommend Ange's house for the welcome and comfortable, cosy feeling. I would love to come back sometime to get to know the area better - Haddington is so beautiful.

  • A beautiful little home filled with everything you could want, comfortable beds, a whole little kitchen, your own bathroom and a big ol' screen to relax in front of. My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our 3 days at Jill's, in a relaxed and really cosy little space of our own. There were sheep and horses just outside our door, and the sheep were so friendly, coming up to the fence sometimes for a scratch behind the ears. The property is surrounded by beautiful fields and greenery, with mountains in the distance, lovely walks nearby and the sweet little town of Haddington within walking distance. Jill was so kind & helpful, as was her husband Ian. We felt so cared for, while still having our own personal space to relax in. An easy 5 stars, and if I'm ever back in the area I'd definitely stay here again.

    Our peaceful cottage is located at the bottom of our garden, reached by a private lane less than 200 yards from the centre of Haddington. Haddington is a historic market town 20 miles east of Edinburgh and has good public transport to the city. Located in East Lothian and 20 minutes drive to the many beaches and golf courses. There are several restaurants, pubs and coffee shops within an easy stroll. The cottage is self-contained with private parking in a relaxed, quiet setting.
    Quiet location but near town centre and all amenities very close by. Park, Sports Centre, tennis courts all within a few hundred yards. Lovely river walk and historic St Mary's church to explore. Our accommodation provides a large bright upstairs studio room overlooking the garden. We have a king-sized bed and a double-sized bed settee in this space. Downstairs, we have the shower room and kitchen with access to garden. It can be cosy in the colder months and fresh and airy for Spring and Summer. Our price per night is based on two adults with an extra small charge for any guests over that number. This does not apply to children under 12 years of age and so when you book via Airbnb, please just book for two adults and there will be no extra charge. You can advise me independently so we can cater for the children as appropriate. Many thanks.

  • Lovely place, well appointed and comfortable. We only stayed one night after a uni drop off, but would certainly come back. Met hosts briefly and they were very nice. It was lovely to find milk, tea etc and even better to find the rest of the provisions left out for us such as beer and wine. We didn't have time to explore the market town, which is a short stroll from the accommodation, but driving through it seemed pleasant with shops, pubs etc. A good base to explore from.

We loved the fact that you could walk right around the corner, through a small "close" and be on the high street in less than a minute. The cottage is private, with parking, a courtyard and a lovely conservatory. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. Linda was always very quick to respond to all our inquiries. She even went above and beyond to help us connect to agents in the area as we searched for properties to rent. Highly recommend!

Haddington has a good mixture of shops including many independent retailers, pubs, cafes and restaurants. Positioned close to the A1 and with a good bus service, there are plenty of options for day trips. There are numerous beaches and golf courses to visit including historic st. Mary’s Church and magnificent Lennoxlove House. The Flat is peacefully located and has its own parking space.

  • We enjoyed a lovely couple of days in Haddington. Carol-Ann's apartment offered everything we needed, and was clean and quiet. Communication was always very prompt, and Carol-Ann sent us some useful travel tips and timetables too. An especially nice surprise were the goodies that welcomed us on arrival - including a cookie decorating kit for the kids (which kept them occupied while we unpacked), and a bottle of wine for us parents to enjoy once the kids were in bed.     Beautifully renovated Coach House in our lovely East Lothian Garden, which was recently opened to the public as part of the East Lothian garden trail. Perfect for a cosy couple of days or as an ideal base to explore beautiful East Lothian, we are 10 minutes from Gullane, North Berwick and Aberlady, 15 from Dunbar.
    The Coach House is in the garden of our 18th century manse, it has a large welcoming hall space and a cosy sitting room with log burning stove(wood supplied). Our open plan dining kitchen is perfect for preparing simple meals or reheating , perhaps not for a gourmet extravaganza! A bathroom with wow factor(free standing large bath with shower attachment) and two twin bedrooms. We have constant heating in winter courtesy of our biomass boiler so plenty of hot water.
    Athelstaneford is a quiet village with a school, a church and the Scottish Flag Trust centre(the Saltire was first seen in the sky above Athelstaneford). We have lovely country walks around the village and we are only ten minutes by car from the coast at North Berwick and Gullane,15 minutes from Dunbar. The train station(Drem) is less than ten minutes away by car and has frequent trains to Edinburgh and back.

  • Arrived at the Coach House to find it locked and no one home, quick call to Alison and it was all soon sorted and we were in, as soon as Alison returned she came round straight away to check we were in and that everything was ok. The Coach House is lovely, very nicely presented in a modern style. It has all you need for a comfortable stay and is situated in a stunning quiet village with the Church over the road having good information on how the Saltire came to be the Scottish flag. Unfortunately we never had time to explore the garden but what we could see from the windows was very well kept and there was a great variety of plants on show. Due to the Coach House being built of stone and having thick walls I found that I had to go outside to obtain a reliable EE phone signal but that has to be expected and can at times be a blessing. Overall we enjoyed our stay there and recommend it for a visit.

Due to Alison being on holiday, our contact was Kirsty, the housekeeper, who was a great help and most sympathetic.Really disappointed at the lack of urgency to fix the boiler, as this could have been a safety issue. We have been issued with a refund for the two nights, after several emails and texts, with Alison. Just left exhausted and disappointed at the whole experience.

The living room with its wood stove is cosy and welcoming and the bathroom is a blissful experience in itself. The cottage is both spacious and cosy and completely charming. Athelstaneford is in an amazing position, being an easy 35 minute drive into the centre of Edinburgh, and only a 10 minute drive from stunning beaches and wild coastline. Haddington is close by for a large Tesco and other necessities such as chemist, laundromat etc. There are beautiful public footpaths right outside the property, and quite simply we didn't want to leave. We would come back in a heartbeat. Wholeheartedly recommended with gratitude to Alison for creating such a beautiful space.

This is a friendly, rural, quiet neighbourhood, perfect as a base for a family or golfing holiday with friends

Large private gardens to front and side. 3 double bedrooms (1 with en suite), and 1 single bedrooms. All equipped with built in wardrobes and excellent storage facilities. Additional storage available in hallway.
    The neighbourhood is quiet and friendly, so don't be surprised if our neighbours stop to say hello if they see you in the garden! Aberlady has convenience stores for groceries and a cash machine. North Berwick and Gullane have excellent options for eating out. There is a Tesco supermarket in North Berwick. Nearby Aberlady Bay is the home of the RSPB in Scotland and a hot spot for ornithologists. Whisky lovers might want to visit the nearby Glenkinchie distillery which is around 15 mins drive from the house

We loved the location of the house, right next to the bistro and by the riverside. There was one night where live music was playing at the bistro which was a bit noisy but it did finish at 10pm. The house was clean and there were soaps, shower gels etc provided. Besides the noise (bins being emptied very early on a morning!) and the travel cot having seen better days we had a fantastic stay.     Cool, comfortable en suite double bedroom in new house in a quiet spot on the edge of Haddington, county town of East Lothian. Easy access to A1, off street parking and two minute walk to bus routes to Edinburgh.
    Close to Edinburgh but with all the amenities you would expect, Haddington is an ancient town in the middle of the beautiful East Lothian countryside. The town has a good number of bars and restaurants for the evening as well as independent shops and cafes for a day out. The house itself is situated on the western edge of the town, close to the former railway line to Longniddry which gives quick access to the countryside for walkers. Being on the edge of the town means the house is minutes from the A1 and 20 minute drive from the edge of Edinburgh. Alternatively regular buses to and from Edinburgh stop two minutes walk away from the house.

    Beautiful, spacious house with self-enclosed south-facing family friendly garden. Located in central Haddington, it is near the beaches and golf courses of East Lothian as well as being close to all that Edinburgh has to offer.
    We love our family home and hope you do you too. A period property which has been renovated with a modern open-plan kitchen/ dining room which opens out onto a large, self-enclosed, south-facing garden, perfect for summer BBQs (available for your use). There is an additional living room (with sofa bed), play room, and toilet downstairs and bathroom (with bath and shower), shower room and four bedrooms upstairs. Bedrooms include one super king bed, one king bed, one single high-sleeper bed with small sofa bed underneath (suitable for a child up to 12 years) and a toddler bed (up to 5 years max). We also have a travel cot if required. We have everything you'd need for a stay with children including a separate playroom with TV and DVD player, climbing frame, sandpit, mud kitchen and play house.
    Haddington is a busy market town within 20 minutes of the stunning beaches and golf courses of North Berwick, Gullane and Dunbar. Edinburgh is within easy access via car, train or bus. (35 minute drive / 40 minute bus/ 15 minutes from Wallyford train which is 10 minutes into Waverley).

  • We had two fantastic nights stay over New Year at Lindas place and we can not recommend it high enough. It isn't the cheapest place to stay in Haddington, but is really is a wee gem! The space is a converted coach house with two good sized bedrooms and a great sized shower room, but the knockout space is the open plan living area with essentially two full hight windows on two sides and primed glass ceiling which lets light flood in. It is beautifully warm aided by the gas powered fire and the kitchen well stocked. The Edinburgh Express bus service has a stop directly outside Lindas place and the centre of Haddington is only a few minutes walk away. For car owners, parking is available on the street outside, but we elected to store ours overnight in a long stay carpark adjacent to the local supermarket which again is only a few minutes walk away. All in all, a great experience.

    **Please enquire about long lets over the winter months** Daffodil Cottage is a newly refurbished cottage in the countryside near to Haddington. It is near the beaches and golf courses of East Lothian as well as being close to all that Edinburgh has to offer. The cottage is very comfortable and a 'home away from home' with a Nespresso machine and Sky TV. Hidden away down a country lane, the only sounds are those of the birds, and there are lovely views of the Lammermuir Hills from the garden.

  • Lovely cosy little cottage in such a peaceful location - but only half an hour into middle of Edinburgh and added bonus of deer, pheasants and rabbits on the door step! We stayed during the festival and it was really great to escape the buzz of the city and get back to the tranquility of Daffodil Cottage. Annabel was a fantastic host, and was more than happy to forward on an item we had left behind.

    Colstoun is arguably the oldest inhabited home in Scotland. Certainly it is the home that has been inhabited the longest by one family, with the Brouns having lived in and owned the home for almost 900 years.
    Colstoun House is a Private Country House of great historical significance. It has been in the Broun family for over 900 years and remains so to this day. Around 30 minutes from the center of Edinburgh it is set in the middle of a 2000 acre estate of both farm and parkland. Colstoun is the perfect secluded escape from the city. We strongly recommend parties of 6+ guests to visit as we are able to offer attractive group rates. All bedrooms were named after their contents, their decoration or their previous function. Accommodation within the house consists of seven double bedrooms and one twin bedroom. All bedrooms have working fireplaces. The Rose and Thistle rooms are double bedrooms with four-poster beds. The rooms were named in the mid 18th century, around the time of the construction of Edinburgh's 'New Town'. In celebration of the Union of Scotland and England it was suggested by the New Town's architects that two streets of equal length be named after the English Rose and the Scottish Thistle. However, King George rejected this idea and demanded that the two western blocks of Thistle Street be renamed Hill and Young Streets, making Thistle Street half the length of Rose Street. Legend has it that the Laird of the time was so enraged by the Kings plan that he had two rooms redecorated, one with Roses and one with Thistles, and planned to accommodate the King in the Thistle Room should he choose to stay. Needless to say the Thistle Room is twice the size of the Rose Room. The Rose Room is subtly decorated with Rose prints and damask, and its four poster bed is draped with rose print curtains. The Thistle Room is our truly Scottish room, tastefully decorated with tartans and the 'Thistle Four Poster Bed'. Made for the room after the Colstoun Fire of 1907. The Red Room takes it name from its furnishings and situation. Located on the West-front of the house, the Red Room is often bathed in glorious shades of red from the setting sun. The beautiful sunsets help to accentuate the rooms most prominent feature, the antique four-posted king size bed, richly decorated with red velvet. Until relatively recently large country houses often had a School Room in which the Masters children would be taught by their governess before being sent away to further their education. The Old School Room takes its name from this prior function. Located at the north end of the west front, the Old School Room contains the door to the bartizan turret and a beautiful four-posted double bed The Indian Room is situated in the north east of the house and was named to commemorate the promotion of the 1st Marquess of Dalhousie (James Broun-Ramsay) to the position of Governor-General of India. This double bed room contains several prints brought back by the Marquess from India, and the wonderfully decorated trunk used to transport them. The Napoleon Room is positioned in the south-east of the house. It was named in recognition of the Napoleonic Officers who as prisoners of war were incarcerated around the house. The Saffron Room, in the North-East corner of the house, is decorated with Shot Silk dyed using a Saffron infusion. One of the oldest rooms in the house, it served at one point as the Baron's room. The Nelson Room was named in honour of Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson, 1st Duke of Bronte, after his successes in the Napoleonic Wars. It is our twin bedroom and has two brass beds that survived the Colstoun Fire of 1907. As Colstoun is still a private house in which the Laird still resides staying will allow you and your guests to have the real Scottish Country House Experience within easy distance of Edinburgh. Staying at Colstoun is like stepping back in time and experiencing a stay at a Country House in years gone by, imagne Gosford Park, Downton Abby, or Brideshead. Due to the age and historical significance of the house changes to the structure are prohibited, as such the bedrooms do not have en-suite facilities, however each room is provided with luxurious bath robes, and bathrooms are located within steps of each bed room. Bed room fireplaces are lit by our resident staff each night, and as is tradition with large country houses the fire can be discretely re-lit by our staff in the morning before you wake (providing you allow access). Guests are invited to view their time at Colstoun like being a houseguest, as such you are provided with access to all the formal rooms of the house, inlcuding the "Union 'Drawing Room", the historic Library, and the formal Dining Room. Accommodation is available for individuals, or residential parties of up to 16 on a room only basis, or Bed and Breakfast, or Dinner Bed and Breakfast. Our resident cook is more than happy to prepare dinner parties for you to entertain your guests, and our Dining Room is available for parties up to 20. Please enquire as to our meal charges. As well as being an Historic House, Colstoun is a home, and as such we hope you will make it your home from home when you come to stay. * PLEASE NOTE * We offer the house as an 'Entire House/Apt' booking, however we reserve the right to accommodate more than one party at a time should your party require 4 rooms or less.
    Colstoun is located on the beautiful 2000 acre Colstoun Estate in the countryside of East Lothian.

The house is incredible with lots of history and interesting things to see, and it was a lovely break out of the city. The organisation of everything was perfect and the all of the food was amazing.   • We didn't know what to expect before we arrived but we had no reason to be concerned. Our stay was wonderful and everyone made us feel completely at home. The food was excellent and our bedrooms were perfect. We enjoyed visiting with Freddie and Cameron and dinner with the Laird was fun. Well worth the money. We will definitely be recommending it to friends.
