  • Rhona's place is a quiet peaceful retreat. Super clean and well cared for this mobile home is cozy and comfortable. We had a great sleep. Our kids enjoyed some hurling lessons from their daughter and our hosts were very friendly and helpful. They were hosting a couple of exchange students who shared interesting experiences as they were visiting to improve their English. Definitely check out the Facebook page for updates on local events.

  • We stayed here last weekend and Anne couldn’t have been more helpful, she arranged transport into thurles for us as we were attending Féile classical 2018, and even provided scarfs and bags for us from her own house to keep us warm! The fridge was fully stocked and we weren’t under any pressure to leave the next morning. I would definitely recommend the b&b and also Anne has a host

    Sandra2018-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Anne was a wonderful host who warmly greeted us on arrival. Upperchurch is a quaint town with great little pubs. We stayed there to go to Jim O' the Mill on Thursday night which was brilliant. Anne helped sort many things out for us and made for a very memorable stay.

    Bronwyn2016-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Place was great and Anne and her husband were very friendly and welcoming. Only tip is if you are using navigation just put in Upperchurch, tipperary as the address link in air bnb does not work. Place is at the top of the hill in the village- can't miss it. And if you are here on a Thursday definitely go to Jim O' the Mill!

    Jennifer2016-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • Anne's place was very welcoming & homely. It was spotlessly clean & we enjoyed a very restful & comfortable stay. We loved the selection of food left available for us to choose from. We cooked a lovely breakfast that set us up for the day ahead. The location is great & Upperchurch is such a charming place. We would highly recommend the accommodation and both Anne & Pa are great hosts.

    Marie2018-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Anne’s place. Everything was very clean and as described. Anne was very responsive and easy to communicate with. It would be a great place for a family or small group to share (5 bedrooms with ensuites, I think). There is a shared lounge with TV and kitchen with plenty of supplies for an Irish breakfast. The Wi-Fi was spotty, but a better service is coming to the area soon. Upperchurch is very quiet. We did not have any issues with noise from the local pubs (3), but maybe on occasion there are some bigger celebrations. The famous Jim O the Mills is a short car ride away. It’s open only on Thursday nights, so get there early for a seat at around 8:30 if you want to sit and enjoy the traditional music sessions starting at 9. You may want to book a taxi in advance to take you there and back. The road is quite dark at night and parking is along the side of the road. Nearby attractions include Devil’s Bit, the Rock of Cashel, Farney Castle, Holy Cross Abbey, plenty of walking routes, fishing, horse riding, etc. Thurles is the largest big town which is about 20 minutes drive. Thurles has a farmers’ market on Saturday mornings. It is also home to the GAA Semple Stadium and the GAA Museum. Limerick is about 40 minutes drive which is easy through the countryside. We stopped at Birdhill on the way back from Limerick one day. It is a beautiful village. We had a lovely meal in Birdhill at Matt the Thresher, another famous pub. For directions, use “Upperchurch” in Google Maps. Hillview is right behind the church attached to Pa’s bar and across from Paddy Kinnane’s pub.

    Sheelagh2018-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Anne is a great communicator and gave excellent directions. He inn is very charming and comfortable. We ate at the pub across the street and had an excellent meal. Would definitely recommend a stay here!

This Irish thatched cottage with all original features authentically restored & preserved is an ideal place to retreat and relax. The cottage is bigger than guests expect and very comfortable. There is also lots to do and see locally including woodland walks, The Devils Bit, The Rock of Cashel, Holycross Abbey, the GAA museum. Kilkenny city is also located 40 minutes away. This gem in the heart of the countryside is a unique experience and not to be missed!
This is the perfect place for a romantic escape! It is a very private cottage with lots of space and comfort for 2 people. Guests can enjoy complimentary scones on arrival and a bottle of wine to share by the fire. It boasts some of the oldest thatch features found in Ireland with its original exposed roof inside. There is a large stove in the open fireplace, a shower and bath, wardrobe space and comfortable bed with excellent quality bed linen. We are happy to provide breakfast for our guests (this can be pre-ordered).

Thanks Grace !! Your cottage is just magic !!!! We loved it

  • What a great place to stay. We LOVED the beautiful cottage and the hosts were so incredibly kind and hospitable. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

    Corrine2018-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Stepping into the cottage is like stepping into a fairy tale. This stay was definitely one of the highlights on our ten day trip through Ireland. The cottage was clean and cozy and the special touches Grace left made it all that much better!

    Laura2018-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this property, very rural but also had all modern amenities. The wood stove was already burning when we showed up and the owners were very helpful. Beautiful place!

    Nick2018-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • I am a Historic House Specialist REALTOR practicing in Central Texas so I wanted to stay at an authentic thatched roof, naturally built historic cottage really bad! This one in "tur less" (as Thurles is pronounced) did not disappoint! We had a little trouble finding it but Grace's husband stood out by the road and guided us in. That was very helpful since it had just become dark out and we needed some rest. Grace had some home made gluten free bread waiting for us and there was a cozy fire going as well. There was plenty of room to park. We really enjoyed our stay! Please note that the electric plug adaptors for the UK do not work in Ireland so be sure and buy special ones for Ireland if you need them for your electronic devices. Grace had suggested the pub down the road to eat dinner and we did go there before heading out to the thatched cottage. I had a beautiful Irish smoked salmon open face sandwich. The next day we headed up to Birr Castle.

  • Ann and her family were very helpful, her husband even showed us how to work the gps in the car. The apartment was very nice, the only thing was there was quite a bit of dust around. I believe it was unoccupied for a bit which makes sense, but this could have been easily fixed. Also, the dogs were very friendly and there was plenty of parking space in the driveway.

    Nicole2018-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • Ann and her husband are great hosts. They welcomed us spontaneously and late, but they were fully okay with that. The apartment is really big with a small kitchen, a living room and a separate toilet and shower. It’s equipped with everything you need, the bed is really cozy and the heating can be altered as you like. We had a nice breakfast before continuing our trip to the Rock of Cashel, which is beautiful and only a short car ride away. Would recommend this apartment anytime.

Ballytarsna-Hackett Castle is a 15th century tower house, built inside a now-ruined 13th Century castle. It is like a keep, with one major difference. Where a keep is a powerful thick-walled tower, an Irish tower house is a home for the family, that also serves as a keep. When restoring this tower, we have maintained its status as a fortress. We have also have made it warm and comfortable. It is a cozy country home ensconced between castellated battlements, authentic and usable! Warm and dry!
Ballytarsna-Hackett Castle is a 15th century fortified tower house. Originally added to the existing castle of 1220, it was built in 1480 to provide the Hackett family with a safe and private accommodation apart from the older castle. The Hacketts were ousted from the then Hackett Castle in 1655 by a Parliamentarian force, due to their support for the Catholic Confederation of Kilkenny. It fell into ruin soon after. Lovingly restored by us between 1999 and 2009, it is now available for you to enjoy. The entire top story is now being offered for Bed & Breakfast. The bedroom below is also available for extra guests in the same party if needed. It is spacious and comfortable, but not ensuite. The main room above is located on the 4th story. This lofty and marvelous room offers spectacular views of the Tipperary countryside, including the Rock of Cashel. It is a self-contained, ensuite assembly of everything you will need to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. A large and elegant four-poster bed is in one corner. The other three corners are occupied by a small library and sitting area, a large free-standing bath tub and finally a 19th century armoire for your clothes. At the end of a narrow passage is your private toilet. In the other direction at the end of a small side chamber is the castle DUNGEON. This grim feature hopefully will not be needed. One occupant has carved the date 1536 into the wall. Breakfast is served in the cozy ground floor kitchen, ensconced between 9 foot thick defensive walls. Evening meals are available on request and are served in the Great Hall of the castle. This candle lit room is warmed by the large 15th century fireplace. Ballytarsna-Hackett Castle is centrally located in County Tipperary. Situated in the countryside on 3 beautiful acres, we are only 10 minutes from the tourist town of Cashel and Thurles, which contain good pubs and restaurants. We are in the middle of many historic tourist attractions. Dublin airport is 1 hour 40 minutes by car and Shannon airport is 1 hour 30 minutes. Come and stay in THE BEST RESTORED CASTLE TOWERHOUSE IN IRELAND. Come and see for yourself why we make this statement. It is warm, dry and free of the dampness found in other castles. We have spared no expense or effort to eliminate these things from Ballytarsna. Simply the best! Finally, a word of caution; There are 64 stone steps to reach your room. USE EXTREME CAUTION ON THESE STEPS. There is no wheel chair accessibility and you should be fairly fit to make this climb. This building is a listed ancient monument and there is strictly no smoking or pets allowed. We look forward to having you as our guest and hope you will enjoy a unique and rewarding experience in this fine medieval fortress. See the Guidebook to see all the things to see and do within an hour of the castle. You can easily spend 3 days here seeing them all. There is much history and monuments all around us.
We are surrounded by historic monuments and hiking trails through the mountains (little ones). Castles, abbeys, music and good pubs and restaurants. All within an hour of the castle. See our Guide book! Before you think about taking lengthy trips hours away from here, see our guidebook. There are marvelous things to see near the castle without driving hours to get to. Stay an extra day and see what our neck of the woods has to offer!

  • There aren’t enough words I could say to truly describe how awesome this castle is or how wonderful the hosts are. From the attention to detail in making us feel welcome and comfortable in this castle, to the entertaining spirit of the hosts John and Margaret, this is absolutely the best place in the world I have ever stayed. The accommodations are lush, the castle is filled with history (both from its original owners and from its modern-owners’ abilities to rehab it), and we had an absolutely wonderful time. Many thanks again to John and Margaret, we can’t wait to see both of you and your castle again!

    Dianna2014-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • Words cannot adequately describe this experience! Every part of it was perfect - the tour, the wonderful history, the scones upon arrival, the comfortable, cozy, clean room, the extraordinarily kindness of John when we were wary of more driving, the amazing breakfast, and - best of all - the time we got to spend talking with John and Margaret, made this night the absolute highlight of our 2-week trip. Just wish we had booked it for longer. Don't miss the chance to stay here - I know we'll be back!

    Jennifer2015-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Staying here is a truly unique experience. John and Margaret were wonderful hosts and made the experience even better. The tower was beautifully restored. We were able to learn of its history and also about life back in the 12th century. We enjoyed a traditional Irish evening meal in medieval costumes provided by Margaret. This made the experience even more unique and memorable. It felt like taking a step back in time. Highly recommend this experience for anyone touring Ireland and looking for something special to do. We hope to return someday!

    Kimberly2018-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. Wonderful hosts and an amazing breakfast. The Irish breakfast was the best I had in the country. If you like castles, you'll love the place. Some steep steps and tight passage to a huge room on the top floor. Amenities aren't 5 stars, it is a castle after all. The owner's stories how he meticulously detailed to restore this castle was very interesting over the last 10 years. A great experience and a memory of a lifetime. You need at least 2 days to take it all in. Cashel and Holy Cross towns are just 15 min. drive in each direction.

    Nathan2013-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Well. Here is another 5 star review for John and Margaret's castle -which they very richly deserve. We were very warmly welcomed with tea and scones by Margaret while John was finishing up for the day on his latest project - an entry gate. When John finished he gave us the full tour floor by floor of his incredible tower castle. John's knowledge and sharing of the history of the castle and its times was nothing less than amazing - and so fascinating. Then there was the history of how he rebuilt the tower from a ruin. Incredible! Ask to see the pictures of how it looked when he started working on it. I was a little under the weather when my husband and I arrived that afternoon. By the time we had climbed around the battlements in the wind I had the chills and couldn't stop shaking. John got a wonderfully warm fire going in the Great Hall and after a while under blankets, with the help of some Jameson's, I stopped shaking. John has under floor heating throughout the bedroom as well as a lovely, huge, bathtub right in the room so the bedroom was very cozy and the bed was very comfortable - a four poster complete with canopy. Breakfast was delicious and John sent me off with cough syrup and a decongestant. They could not have been warmer, or more caring hosts. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity! Whatever you do, don't miss it!!! I'm so glad we stayed there. It made our trip extra special. Thank you so much John and Margaret.

  • On arrival we were made feel very welcome by hosts Margaret, John and their children. We were warmly welcomed with tea and scones and ended up chatting for a couple of hours around the kitchen table. Our hosts advised us where to eat in Cashell and John showed us to our beautiful bedroom at the top of the tower. The room is at the top of a spiraling staircase making you feel like you are stepping back through time. The Carignan's showed us the rest of the rooms along the way - living room and bedrooms and when we reached our bedroom at the top we were blown away by the comfort - big bed, underfloor heating, free standing bath plus all the personal touches - bottle of wine, chocolates, lots of candles, basket of toiletries. We had a great sleep in a very comfy bed followed by a delicious full Irish brekkie with lots of chat and info about the castle's history and renovation. This is a real, fully functioning tower so guests need to be limber enough to climb to the top. Our hosts opened their unique home to us, showing us all the nooks and crannies of the original building. Margaret is warm and welcoming and being local she and my husband (also from Tipperary) knew places/people in common. John is a very interesting man, full of stories and history. No wonder we chatted for hours. We hope we meet again!

  • Our family had a wonderful stay at John & Margret's castle. They were warm & welcoming. John gave us a fantastic tour of the castle. The room was absolutely splendid. The pictures online do not do it justice. We were offered tea & scones when we arrived and a delicious Irish breakfast the next morning. John & Margret are quite lovely & it was a joy getting to know them.

This small terraced cottage is situated in the middle of the picturesque village of Holycross with wonderful views of the restored 12th century Cistercian Abbey located just across the ancient, stone arched bridge. The bridge straddles the river Suir as it meanders its way through the county and which is renowned for its fishing. On a fine summer’s evening you can sit in the front garden and look out at this peaceful scene while watching the sun set.
The cottage has 2 double bedrooms, each containing a double bed, lockers and built in wardrobe. There is a shower room with walk in shower. The main living area is open plan and is bright and airy due to the raised ceilings and 2 large velux windows. There is tv and high speed wifi internet. The kitchen is well stocked with everything required for cooking and includes a dishwasher and microwave. The cooker is electric. There is an oil heating system but if you wish to cosy up on a cold night, there is also a modern wood burning stove. The sofa converts to a double bed if required. Outside space is to the front of the house and garden chairs, parasol etc. are provided.
Holycross has 3 pubs (one of which serves food), a local shop serving home made breads and pastries and also a popular restaurant located within a few metres of the house – everything is within walking distance. There is a riverside park and a large green area at the top of the village. Guided tours explaining the rich history and beautiful architectural features of Holycross Abbey are available. You can also visit the unique wildlife habitat and education centre at nearby Cabragh Wetlands. In the wider area, from linear to looped walks, Tipperary has a fantastic selection for the rambler, hiker and stroller!

  • Centrally located in a lovely village, located on the Suir River, in county Tipperary. Well located to many attractions. The cottage is clean, and well stocked with everything you need to make your stay memorable. The owners will be there to great you and will be able to answer all your questions. The village is quiet at night and you are sure to have a good nights sleep. I highly recommended this cottage if your looking for a more traditional holiday away from the big cities.

  • We stayed at the Holycross cottage for 8 days while visiting from Canada . Esther is a wonderful, pleasant , very accommodating host. The cottage itself is extremely well equipped with anything you would ever need. The owners attention to detail is beyond what we expected. There is small corner store very close by, as well as a pub that’s serves food until 4:00 pm . We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend Esther as a host and Holy Cross Cottage as an excellent choice for accommodation .

    Anne2016-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Maison chaleureuse et confortable. Magnifique jardin, calme. Nous avons passé un excellent séjour. Proche de nombreux sites touristiques.

    Sylvie2016-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • We really loved this house. It is comfortable, warm and really well equipped for cooking, TV, DVDs etc. The gardens and surrounding countryside are just beautiful. We were extremely lucky with the weather which meant the children in our group went from the large trampoline to the table tennis to time trials on the go-cart, with some football and badminton on the lovely lawn in between. The beds were very comfy. Deirdre responded quickly to any queries and was generous with advice about the area, and we were welcomed with delicious scones and bread. Thurles is a busy town and although it is not greatly served with restaurants for evening meals, it has some very nice day-time cafes (Ryan's Daughter and the cafe at the Source centre especially). We enjoyed the Cabragh wetlands nearby, the climb up Devil's Bit mountain and a trip to Cashel. We hope to return some time, and would recommend Cassestown House.

  • The best air bnb experience I have has thus far. We we given clear directions to get to the house/how to get in and we instantly felt right at home. The house and area are unbelievably charming and it was a true pleasure to wake up every morning and walk alongside the farmhouse with a cup of tea in hand. We were able to travel with ease to Dublin and around Tipperary using the nearby train station. Thurles itself is a wonderful town with restaurants, pubs, and loads of stores. I am so glad I chose to stay at this farmhouse. It made my trip unforgettable and I would recommend it to anyone who was looking to stay in Tipperary.

  • This home was absolutely incredible! "Striking" was an understatement! Beautiful surroundings with the most amazing flower garden, so peaceful and relaxing! The home was clean and spacious, plenty of room for everyone. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay for our final weeks in Ireland. The kids loved the property as well, especially the trampoline! Deirdre made us feel at home right away and we were given wonderful suggestions for activities nearby as well as a very thorough explanation of household maintenance and usage so we were able to enjoy the home right from the very start. We would highly recommend this property and host to anyone wishing to visit this area. Thanks Deirdre and Joe! We hope to visit again in the not too distant future!

    Jared2015-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Deirdre's place was the perfect spot to unwind after a long day of travelling. The name of her listing says it all. Both the house and property are truely striking. We loved being able to spread out throughout the large house and explore the beautiful adjoining gardens and restored outbuildings. Although we never had the pleasure of meeting Deirdre, we loved her fresh baked scones and her family and neighbours helped ensure we felt at home at her place.

The town of Templemore is on the plain beneath the eastern slopes of the Devil’s Bit mountain range, in the centre of the upper Suir Valley, a prosperous agricultural area. The town is defined by the Devil’s Bit mountain range to the west, by Barnalisheen and Baunmore bogs to the east, by Roscrea (17Km) town to the north and by Thurles town (12Km) to the south. Templemore is situated in the north of County Tipperary. The townland on which the town is built is Kiltillane (Cill Silean- Sheelans Church). Later a large church was built; the ruins of which can be seen in the Town Park. It is from this church that the town got its present name ‘ An TEAMPALL MÓR’,(large or Grand Temple) Templemore. The Town Park is an excellent resource for visitors and locals and is definitely worth visiting if you are in this area whether it’s for a walk or a picnic or to use the playground. Templemore, County Tipperary is a great base to explore Tipperary and the surrounding counties. There is a hotel in the centre of the town and plenty of Bed and Breakfast close to the area. The Devil’s Bit mountain range is within easy reach for walking and hiking enthusiasts. There are visitor farms for families, a local brewery (White Gypsy) and great local eateries to whet your appetite during your visit to Templemore.
  • Lovely B&B - terrific house. Bright, clean, spacious bedroom with ensuite. We were warmly greeted and provided with fresh milk for our tea and a slice of coffee cake which was very welcome. Breakfast was prompt and tasty - no fuss, Celia was an excellent hostess.

  • My wife and I were responsible for organising our annual get together for 20 friends and Inch house certainly enabled us to have a wonderful time with a beautiful period home and wonderful en-suite bedrooms, free standing baths and a sublime dinning room. We would like to thank Cara and her family for the very warm welcome and the thoughtful food on arrival and for having the fire down. The property and service surpassed our expectations and a wonderful weekend was had by all. The activities which were booked were fantastic, especially on the beautiful grounds in front of the house. The bedrooms were all perfect and there was ample room for all. The house was perfectly heated throughout which was important considering the sudden drop in temperature on the weekend. A massive thank you from Patrick & Serena.

  • This is an amazing house, well worth a a visit. It works very well for a big group. Nora welcomed us and couldn't have been more accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. She even left us some essentials and goodies in the kitchen. The beds are really comfy with an en suite in every room. The house is really well equipped with everything you might need but should you want to get out Thurles is only a short drive away or there's a lovely local pub a 5 minute walk away. I couldn't recommend the place more. Thank you so much Cara and Nora. I hope we get another chance to visit soon.

  • Sue and Pat was simply the best hosts we've had so far! They were so welcoming and embraced us with open arms. Considering how late we booked in, Sue and Pat did amazingly well in preparing the place for us. They even offered a discounted price and gave us the master room because we were their first customers in air BnB! Consider us lucky or what!?? When we were tired from our long journey from England (as we had travelled all day) they kindly offered us homemade scones and tea (at 10pm )! The rooms were squeaky clean and the bathroom was just to die for.... Sue and Pat also make a really tasty breakfast!! The kids loved their stay and didn't want to leave in the end because they've enjoyed their stay so much; this was partly because of Toffie (the dog) and their movie nights in the cinema room, which Pat organised for them. The location of the house is great too because it's situated in the middle of the country. Locally, there are so many things going on. However, would recommend to travel by car as the house is situated in the country side and would need to travel a bit to get to top tourist places (i.e cliffs of moher). Our stay at Sue and Pat's home was great and I highly advice others to book in as you will leave wanting to stay longer or never leave at all. Pat and Sue were such friendly, outgoing and welcoming hosts. They've become such good friend of ours and would definitely be keeping in contact with them. We'll definitely be looking into staying here again in the future when we come and visit Ireland again.

  • Sue and Pat's place is outstanding. We were made to feel relaxed and at home but with a sense of luxury. Two of us are vegan and Sue bought extra food and made us a lovely breakfast. The local tips were also helpful. A great base for exploring Tipperary. Highly recommended

Danke Sue!

  • Wow, this is one of the best places I have ever stayed. Its more like a tiny hotel than a B&B. it is a very old home but with very modern feel in the rooms. The views are second to none. I have stayed in Tipperary many many times but took a chance for a change. While it was more expensive than some others it was also streaks ahead of all the others I have stayed in. I have already rebooked for when I pass through next month.
