Walk the urban battleground of WWII's final climatic battle

The tour concentrates on the devastating Battle of Berlin which occurred in April/May 1945. The battle was very much the dramatic conclusion of the entire Second World War in Europe, but also played a huge part in the post-war situation of Berlin, including its division into East and West.

The tour takes you through central Berlin - known as 'Z Sector' during the battle - where we will see many of the major sites and learn what they experienced during the battle, the war in general and the aftermath. Additionally, I will show how the city recovered, changed and became the city that would epitomise the Cold War. Although the tour is focused on the battle, I will also show sites associated with the Nazi period in general as well as the Berlin Wall. We visit some major spots along the way, such as:

Brandenburg Gate
Museum Island
The Reichstag
The Holocaust Memorial
Luftwaffe HQ
SS HQ
Bebelplatz
The Fuhrerbunker

The entire tour will be punctuated with photos taken of Berlin in from the battle and earlier, allowing the guest to see how the city was devastated, but also how it recovered.

Born in England, I moved to Berlin around 7 years ago. I have always been obsessed with history, eventually studying a BA in History and Politics and a Masters in Strategic Studies. More than anything, I simply love to talk about history, especially regarding my favourite city. I have now been providing tours of Berlin, and Germany in general, for almost 2 years. I'm pleased to say I think I've found my calling in life!

Mark is not only a fount of knowledge, he has excellent delivery and really brings history to life. I loved the photos he shares of Berlin during the Battle. Plus he takes the time to find out what interests each person and makes recommendations accordingly. I can’t recommend this tour enough!

This was a really fun and informative tour. Mark was clearly knowledgeable on the subject and the city in general; he was able to answer everyone's questions and knew a lot of random facts that made the tour even more engaging. Overall a great value, highly recommend!

Mark was amazing! Very knowledgeable and gave great insight to what happened during that time period, why, and who was involved. It wasn’t like your boring history class, Mark told the story in a captivating manner and made the sight seeing more real. He also answered any questions and gave advice for further exploration of berlin.

Highly recommend touring with Mark! He was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. I never once got bored during the 3.5 hour tour. We visited many key Berlin WWII sites, including some that aren't officially marked. Mark was responsive to each person's questions. The bakery rest stop halfway through was well timed and kept us going for the rest of the afternoon. My husband and I both enjoyed the tour immensely.
