Au programme

How about a traditional and unique Japanese tea ceremony performed just for you, your family or your friends? Let's have a private Japanese tea party together! Come gather around and have a seat at our table (that's right, no painful kneeling on tatami mats).
Enjoy a luxurious tea ceremony called "Encha Mittsukazari", which is the most traditional kind of tea ceremony of the Ōbaku Baisa-ryū School of the "Way of Tea" and has been performed ever since its foundation. You will see a variety of real tea utensils used to prepare tea in traditional style and gain deep insights into the world of Japanese tea and Zen culture.
With a maximum of five guests, you can make this experience your very own and enjoy it as a private tea ceremony just for you and your group! All five guests will taste the tea prepared during the ceremony. Delight your palate with freshly prepared green tea of the highest rank, called "Gyokuro", coupled with delicious Japanese sweets.
Afterwards, ask away freely about anything you are interested in: about the ceremony, about Japanese tea, sweets and culture… Anything that piques your curiosity! Let's get a taste of ancient Kyoto and enjoy Japanese tea together!
Other things to note
In this experience, we are not using Matcha, but Sencha, another kind of Japanese green tea with a different culture, though it does not fall short of Matcha in any way!
Give it a try, we know you will love it!

Hello! My name is Ute (羽照). After graduating in Japanese Studies and moving to Japan, I started studying the Japanese tea ceremony in Kyoto and have been practicing and instructing others for more than 3 years now.
As a renowned and active member of Ōbaku Baisa-ryū, one of the major schools of the Japanese "Way of Tea", I am an expert at performing and teaching the ceremony in both Japanese and English. I have performed tea ceremonies at more than 20 major events held at famous locations, like Kamigamo-jinja Shrine and Manpuku-ji Temple, and am regularly organizing tea gatherings myself, introducing others to the world of Japanese tea.
Practicing tea ceremony is such a fulfilling way of experiencing Japanese culture and I am looking forward to sharing it with as many people as possible!

What a graceful ceremony. This is not the formal matcha tea ceremony with strict rules. I really enjoyed all of the explanations along the way!

We looked for a tea ceremony on a last-minute whim, and feel very fortunate to have found this experience! We learned so much about history, Japanese culture, and even some agri-science! Overall, it was just a great way to spend our first evening in Kyoto!

It was a great experience! I must've missed the information that we signed up for a sencha ceremony until Ute san sent us the message (matcha ceremony is much more common and I've been in one). I would strongly recommend the sencha ceremony, as not only does the tea have a unique taste to it, the ceremony itself is rather different than the matcha one. Ute san is a wonderful storyteller, we learned a lot that day.

Very informative, polite, and professional. Took time to answer any questions we had during the experience and did an amazing job explaining the tea ceremony. A very positive experience overall and I would recommend booking this experience.
