Having fun learning how to Crab

Mill Bay, Canada

Expérience organisée par Nicholas

2 heures
Inclus : équipement

Au programme

Everyone in the group must have a
“one day” Pacific fishing license for the day you’d like to fish crab. Or you can buy a year licence. Kids licences are free, but still need to have one. Licences are available online and you must have one to use my equipment. We will meet at the public dock in Mill Bay. I will give a lesson on baiting and using the traps. You will also learn to identify your catch by species, size, and sex as It is necessary information to follow the legal parameters. I provide you with a trap each and the bait for your trap. I supervise as you set the traps. Usually we leave the traps in the water for about 10 minutes, after that you will pull up the trap and we can see what you got. At this point we will go over what is legal and not legal to keep. Once you are comfortable with the process I leave you alone to fish at your own pace. When you are finished for the day you can keep your catch and I will take the traps. In this area you will be catching red rock crab, they are very tasty.
When you are waiting to pull up the crab you can check out the other sea creatures that you should be able to see, like star fish, seals and more. The view is great with Mt Baker in the backdrop. Brentwood School is just around the corner and you can usually spot students rowing in the bay. If you want to have a break for lunch there is a great restaurant just down the road
Other things to note
Have lots of fun and enjoy

I have always been interested in fishing. When I moved to BC 3 years ago I had my first crab fishing experience. It was a total failure, I bought a trap put in the bait and waited a few hours just to find my trap open and empty. I eventually got the hang of it and now me and my kids and our guest go crab fishing often.

This experience was amazing! I highly recommend it for anyone who has never been crabbing before. As advertised, we caught lots of crab! We had to throw most of them back because they didn't meet the size and gender requirements but it was a ton of fun nonetheless. Nicholas is friendly, personable, and he even offered to stay longer than our scheduled time so we could catch a crab we could bring home! Luckily we were able to catch one in the end, the red rock crab tastes like Dungeness but sweeter. Definitely tasty!

Beautiful location and such fun to catch crabs with Nicholas guiding through. My kids were excited to catch their own crabs and later cook and eat for dinner. Highly recommend!

Had a lovely morning crab fishing on the dock with Nicholas. He gave us some very valuable information and was true to his word - we did catch some crabs!
