Get an insight of the contemporary Budapest by a local

This experience is a spicy combination of historical sightseeing, understanding contemporary Budapest, discovering street art and murals, local galleries, bookshops, coffee shops, and the design scene, all along the path of ruin bars.

You will get an insight into the vibrant cultural life of the Jewish quarter, the coolest and trendiest neighbourhood of the city.

We will check out the area’s coolest designer shops, galleries and bookstores and we will see the amazing street art and murals and embrace contemporary Budapest.

We will visit a wide variety of ruin pubs, learn about their history and have a chat while enjoying local beers.

This tour is NOT pub crawl – you will also be shown how underground culture and party came together in the downtown of Budapest.

I'm a big fan of the alternative and underground cultural life and nightlife scene of Budapest. My passions are the fantastic street art scene of the city, the funky ruinbars and underground bars, design and vintage shops, small galleries, street food, bookshops and coffee shops.

It's hard to find the right words to describe how deep and precious this tour was. We loved every second of it. It makes possible to get the most interesting mix of history/modern arts and the life of the Jewish quarter and nowadays' vibrant life of Budapest. I have no idea how much time you need to get all the insights by yourself. I personally consider this tour as great luck. If you are searching for a deep and meaningful tour in Budapest with the real expert - it is a must-visit.

Budapest's Jewish Quarter is set against a decaying elegance, draped in lush murals and dripping with a hodgepodge energy where garden variety retail is studded with counter-cultural angst and parochial tastes digest glossy social media palettes. Attila is a savvy insider who can bring a breadth and depth of insight to this decadent landscape. He knows the street artists, understands their motivations and lived through the gentrification fo the Jewish Quarter. After his walking tour, I was able to appreciate the latent messages in the bountiful street art and graffiti and was introduced to alternative experiences to the quarter's bawdy night life (e.g. ruin pubs-turned-farmer markets, food halls-as-flea markets and bars-cum-experimental music venues). He also has an excellent blog called Budapest Flow that I used regularly after our tour to explore the city. Despite this being my second time here, Attila's tour and blog made it seem like I was a fresh visitor again.

There was just two of us on the tour, plus Attila. It was cold as it was the beginning of February but we knew this when we booked. We got a great tour of a part of the city we had previously missed since we arrived two days before. Attila shared his personal experience of the changes he had seen in the area and also a deeper history. We got some great photos, shared mulled wine and received recommendations of pubs and restaurants to visit in our own time.

Attila was a great host. I visited in the low season (middle of January) and actually had my own private tour which was fabulous. He knows so much about the area and history of Budapest and has so many personal stories to share. I learned way more than I would have otherwise. He also shared insider tips and local suggestions for wine bars, restaurants and things to do. Great experience and so happy I did this tour!
