I'm a Japanese traditional textile artist. 4th generation. I held some weaving culture work shops in order to inherit Japanese traditional textiles and culture. I would be very happy if we could interact with everyone through the textile.
I also have a weaving experience of ”Kyoto traditional twill weaving experience”. Please check it out.

Please please do this! It's truly an experience you will never get anywhere else. You not only get to see beautifully woven pieces not otherwise seeable for most of the public. The weaving experience was very fun and personal!

Truly excellent experience. Tatsumura really knows what he's doing, and it's an honour to be able to learn about the history and basics of silks in Japan. Not to mention it's an amazing price, and you get to take the cloth you made home. Highly recommend.

This experience is truly special and helped me learn about a rare and delicate form of craftsmanship that I could only dream of mastering. As a seamstress I work with silk and other fabric all day. The quality that they were producing was something truly remarkable. The process of weaving was authentic and fun to learn. Our guide and our teacher were both amazing and talented. Tips for taking this experience, I would wear socks and shoes that can easily be slipped on and off. Also know that while they speak very good English there is a lot of Japanese so having someone with you who speaks a little maybe helpful.

A fascinating look into a generations-old tradition of weaving! We arrived at Tatsumura Co. after a short walk from the bus station. The neighborhood is a quiet suburban area now, and the two buildings of this unique workshop are unassuming from the outside. Inside we were given a lovely tour of the history of the company as well as being shown many of the pieces they have woven for display in galleries, government buildings, and other notable locations over the years. My friend and I are seamstresses and fascinated by textiles, so this was lovely. We were shown the main workshop where a weaver was working an incredibly complex pattern on one of the enormous wooden looms and were then ushered into the learning workshop where two smaller, simpler looms were set up for us. Mr. Tatsumura's wife demonstrated the simple technique for us and we were able to practice weaving a small sample of fabric with silk threads. The hands-on experience really shows you the incredible skill that the master weaver's must have to maintain the perfect tension and pattern as they work. We were able to learn how a project is finished and watch the looms be re-set for the next project as well. Truly an amazing place to visit if you have any interest in Japanese textiles or handicrafts!
