Ce que vous allez faire

We will meet you in Walthamstow Wetlands car park by the ticket machine where we will find out each other’s names and describe what you’ll likely see on the tour. We will then hand out a listing of different species of birdlife and mammals on laminated cards. This gives a sense of acomplishment when you can name the animal yourself. We will then lead you around the wetlands showing you different species of bird and explaining more about them. We will be able to stop so everyone can take pictures as these will help inspire you for the Craft workshop or as we call it “Crafternoon” later on. We will ask you to make sure to keep your eyes peeled for sightings as well, for instance Kingfishers are are a rare and special sight and the more eyes we have the more likely we will see one. We will continue around the wetlands explaining all the different birdlife and mammals, answering any questions you might have. After that we will cross the road to The Ferry Boat Inn where the “Crafternoon” will take place. If nice weather we can sit outside. We will guide you in sewing an animal you saw during the tour or of your own choice using simple patterns and fabrics provided by us.

Onai and I live in Walthamstow Forest and we have found hidden gems like the Walthamstow Wetlands. For the urban wildlife tour we have much experience and a unique perspective- I am now a marine mammal surveyor for the ORCA charity so have gained a great eye in spotting different spieces of birds. Onai spent a year studying Zimbabwean birdlife to inspire beautiful costume design which brings us on to the next part - the“Crafternoon” where Onai -who works in the costume dep of the West End- will lead a workshop in sewing and fabrics inspired by the wildlife we encountered on the tour.

Le lieu

The Walthamstow Wetlands are a special wildlife reserve within the hustle and bustle of London The dragonflies, butterflies, egrets, grebes, cormorants, herons and many other species spotted will hopefully inspire a great afternoon of crafts in the pub across the road from the wetlands.
