Firstly we will give you an introduction to us and our dogs, give you an overview of what we will be doing and answer any questions that you may have. When meeting the dogs we'll share with you their individual journey to becoming a sheepdog. We'll explain and demonstrate the way that we communicate with our dogs, using: body language; voice commands; whistles; and other sounds. Voice commands are one of the methods used to guide the dogs, you will be introduced to the commands and their meaning, and then you can have a go at using them with one of our dogs. We'll show you how we progress from no commands to voice commands to whistle commands. You'll be introduced to the shepherds whistle, and be taught how to use one; you can have a go at giving a command to a dog if you happen to master it instantly! You will each receive a shepherds whistle to take away with you! I will move a small flock of sheep around a trial like course and demonstrate commands and the natural herding instinct that's in-built with the Border Collie.
