Ce que vous allez faire

This is a 3,5 hours gentle walking tour and 2 hours visit in Pitigliano village in OFF THE BEATEN TRACKS. Despite the incomparable beauty, the walking area is difficult to find without a guide. Etruscan Vie Cave (Etruscan paths) is an impressive road network (VII Cent BCE) linking Etruscan necropolis and settlements in the area. The roads are paths excavated as nearly vertical cliffs in tuff, sometimes over twenty feet high. Their construction may have mainly resulted from the wearing through soft tufo bedrock by iron-rimmed wheels, creating deep ruts. After a welcome café, we leave Pitigliano following Via Cava network by making a loop. The road has a special micro-climate suitable for ferns mosses and lichens. We will reach the provincial road crossing the Fiora River. The river springs from the southern flank of the Monte Amiata, near Santa Fiora and was one of the main communication channels in the Etruscan era. The Fountain of Olmo will be the place for a rest and a mid-morning snack. After lunch in Pitigliano, we start a guided tour. The village housed a Jews community (XV Cent.) and an important centre of refuge in central Italy

I started guiding adventures travels in April 2008, the day after a friend of mine asked me to discover central Italy off the beaten track. Since then, I have led more than 12 tours. I’m an international rural development by profession, travel designer and walker by passion. My professional career with international organisations took me in 25 countries all over the world. In 2008, I turned my skills to sharing a lifelong passion for walking and the culture of my country. I wrote books on International Relations, I run 3 full marathons and rowing competitions. I love “row cooking"

The tour follows and has been inspired by 1842 George Dennis guide “The Cities and Cemeteries of Etruria”. Dennis was a typical British explorer of Etruria.
