Sneak around the alleys and trails of Longmont to discover the world of more than 100 public art pieces. Hosted by 27 year resident, you will learn the inspiration of the art creations. What is it made of? How much did it weigh? How was it selected? Cost? And how did they get it here? Who might live inside? Whether by bike or by foot, your tour will be unique to YOU. Love bronzes? Who is Manilda and what is her story? How did they install NuHu? What is the secret formula for the Listening Stone? Why are there two Teddy Roosevelts? What is that and how was it selected? We'll experience them! Want to interact with the artwork? We can do that! Or just view some of the 50 "Shock Art" (switchgear) boxes by bike? Longmont's public art collection boasts 76 permanent installations by 63 national artists. In addition, 50 Shock Art boxes pepper the City with color and creativity. We'll stop for artisan coffee/snacks or beverages, depending on group desire.
My 26 years in Longmont have been spent perusing the streets, bike lanes (and secret paths) by bike and by foot. I could probably point out with blind fold where the crevices in most roads are, and can tell you where the four way stops are without google maps! In my professional life as Public Art Administrator, I have worked with volunteers, City staff and more than 100 artists - local and national- to develop Longmont's successful public art program, consisting of 75+ permanent installations as well as 47 "Shock Art" boxes and an art on loan program. Come see the art/hear the stories!

We will stop for artisan coffee/snacks en route, and water/restroom stops will be available throughout!
I have overseen the installation/completion (murals/Shock Art murals) of more than 100 pieces of artwork throughout the City, and I have been there for every single one! Lots of stories to tell - mis-measuring, passers-by who hug the artwork, windy installations, and most importantly, the inspiration behind it all. Sharing the selection process is always an eye-opener, as public art seemingly "just appears" to most. get involved!
