Au programme

Trinidad has numerous very talented artists and I would love to show them to you. Trinidad's art scene is also diverse, so this experience can be catered to your personal interest. Using art as a tool, I and my favourite artists will talk about the essential aspects of Cuban culture. As fine observers of Cuban society, each artist has an authentic history to tell. Some are self-taught, others were students or teachers of the Fine Art School in Trinidad. Just to give you some examples, you will learn about the transition from the old values of a generation that lived the Social Revolution to the new one’s of Cuban modern society, the existence of community living and solidarity of families and neighbours and the huge importance of recycling and repairing old objects. Cuba is a melting pot of many cultures, however the traditions of the Spanish colonisers and of the West-African former slaves have had the biggest impact. This mix of cultural influences we will discuss too. During this experience you will see an extensive type of art works such as paintings, wood carvings, sculptures, antiques and embroidery that will teach you about this intriguing Cuban history and culture.

I am an Art Historian from the Netherlands with a big passion for Cuban Art & Crafts. Trinidad has a rich art community and many of these artists have become good friends of mine. I was born and raised in the Netherlands, but Cuba has played a central role for many years. My lovely stepmother is Cuban and from the beginning her family has treated me like I was one of their own. As a rare outsider and expat, I have this lucky opportunity to immerse myself into the culture and learn about Cuban values and habits. Before my decision to move to Cuba, I studied Art History in Spain and worked in several art galleries around the world. Together with my husband we run a B&B. With my expertise on Cuban art, culture and history, I invite you to be my guest and explore the amazing arts & crafts that Trinidad has to offer!
