Au programme

Canoeing on the calm and tranquil River Stour provides a unique opportunity to explore one of the most historic and prettiest navigations in England as it weaves it's way through the undulating landscapes that inspired some of nations biggest artists while also getting close to nature and stopping at places of local historic interest.

Our 2 hour return journey together will start at our riverside meeting point in Sudbury (15 mins walk from the train station, parking 2 mins away) where we'll have a quick safety chat and practice some simple paddle skills before donning our buoyancy aids and heading out onto the river.

Once on the water we'll paddle at a gentle pace (approx 2mph) past the back of historic houses through local meadows and open farmland to the riverside Henny Swan where we'll stop for refreshments (payable locally) before returning back to Sudbury.

Wildlife sightings may include Otter, Water Vole, Kingfisher and even Terrapin as well as more common wildfowl, swans, moorhen and heron.

Other things to note:

The River Stour is a calm and tranquil river, it is 'ungraded' and therefore suitable for beginners of average fitness.

Up to 2 x <10's OR 1 x 10-14 yr old can join 2 paying adults as passengers on the floor in the middle of the canoe free of charge.

Please dress for the weather!

Le lieu

We'll start our journey at Sudbury Boat Hire under Ballingdon Bridge in Sudbury - infamously crossed by Pongo Purdita in Dodie Smiths 101 Dalmations!

Heading off downriver we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for river wildlife and enjoy the beauty of the Stour Valley as can only be experienced from the river.

Our party of 9 fell in love with Seth and had the best time ever. He remained so calm even when we managed to capsize the 'uncapsizeable' canoe. We would definitely recommend this experience. 10 out of 10

Seth, our guide was very pleasant and informative. Explaining the history of the river. It was so beautiful the weather was perfect and I kept thinking of the water and what we saw long afterwards.

Fantastic way to spend the afternoon. We loved the beautiful location. It was made extra special by Dylan and Toby who were both really friendly and knowledgable. Would highly recommended this adventure to everyone.

Lively canoe ride on the river Stour, went at our own pace, our guide was very patient as we are both in our late 60s. Saw a few swans with their cygnets, ducks, moorhens, fish and birds. Our guide was very friendly and told us of the history of the river as we passed certain areas.

We really enjoyed our canoe experience. It was amazing how quiet and peaceful everything became when you stepped off the busy road and onto the water. Kids got to see some wildlife which was an added bonus. Really enjoyed it
