You'll learn how to cook a traditional mexican recipe and get to know one of the biggest markets on wheels of the city, in one of the last founding towns of Mexico City. The day starts at 11:00 am in our appartment located in the south part of the city. We'll take you for a walk trough the traditional town of La Candelaria, Coyoacán heading to the tianguis (market) where we'll hand pick the ingredients for our recipe. You can choose between pork/chicken in peanut sauce, or cheese and plantains dumplings in chile sauce, we'll teach you how to pick the best of all! There we will have the chance to try some quesadillas and other kind of mexican snacks, as well as aguas frescas (fruits juice) and micheladas. Heading back home we'll go trough the beautiful Huayamilpas Park, full of mexican endemic plants. We'll be back in our appartment between 12:00 and 12:30 pm, just ready to chill a bit and start cooking. We will provide you with a written recipe, I'll be guiding the process but we all will be cooking. Food will be ready around 2:00 pm and we'll have lunch together while listening to nice mexican music. Price includes: cooking supplies, ingredients, 2 snacks and 2 drinks per person.
Xavier & Sage
For the last 15 years I've been juggling between cook works, teaching history (my college major), practicing art and working in a local tour company. My family raised me close to our traditions rooted in the states of Oaxaca and Guerrero, two of Mexico's richest in culture and cuisine. From my grandmother I learned the secrets to create the traditional mexican tastiness, from my father I learned how to create my own flavors. For the last two years my girldfriend Sage and I, have created our own cattering bussiness and home made salsa brand in Vancouver. Sign in for a true local cuisine trip!
