Escape the crowds at Red Rock and Mt. Charleston, and enjoy some amazing views on the trail less traveled! For this adventure, we'll meet at the trailhead, where you'll be introduced to Scout, the world's best hiking dog! She's a mellow, happy dog, who absolutely loves to hike! Scout has hiked and camped with me, all around Nevada, for over ten years. After introductions, we'll hit the trail! This hike takes us to Park Peak, a minor peak in the McCullough Hills, south of Las Vegas, with phenomenal city views. Distance: 4 miles Elevation gain: 1000 feet Surface: all trail, except a small scramble on the rock-pile summit Pace: under 2 mph The trail has some steep sections - enough to get your heart pumping. I'll adjust my pace to suit your fitness level, and we'll have ample stops to interpret the local flora and enjoy the view. These are some of the plants you'll learn about along the way: Joshua tree Creosote Nevada jointfir Pencil cholla Lichen Mojave Yucca Desert trumpet Globemallow Indian rice grass And more! The hike will take about 2.5 to 3 hours, depending on your pace. I will carry all the water and supplies, so you can hike unencumbered and simply enjoy the scenery.
I have been hiking and guiding in Southern Nevada for more than 30 years. Over that time, I have found countless hidden gems, unknown to most hikers, where you can experience the natural side of Southern Nevada without the bustling crowds. I am also an experienced naturalist, with substantial knowledge of local flora, which I'll share along the way. SCOUT is a 10 year old German Shepherd who LOVES to hike! She has bagged every major summit around Las Vegas, and is a registered Canine Good Citizen. I adopted Scout when she was 6 months old, after she was abandoned at a vet's office.
