10.30am David and myself will meet the small group of guests (maximum 4) at his studio in Hove. We will introduce ourselves, have tea/coffee/pastries, then David will then take the lead, showing you some of his work, chatting through the processes that he uses, and the inspiration behind his paintings. The workshop is tailor-made to suit each participant's interests. You will learn how to paint using the 'en grisaille' method, using either oils or acrylics. The workshop will also include advice on: drawing, composition, subject matter and, if required, the life of a gallery artist. All materials, paints and brushes will be provided, including a 40 x 50 cm canvas which will be yours to take home. After a productive morning (approximately 2 1/2 hours), you will wander down the road to our home (only 3 minutes away), where we will sit down to a simple, rustic lunch which I will prepare for you (typically homemade soup or similar, sourdough bread & local cheeses). After lunch, you will walk back to the studio for another 2 hours until the end of the day at approximately 4pm. All you need to bring is your imagination and enthusiasm, and subject matter if you have something in mind.
I'm co-hosting this exclusive and unique expressive painting masterclass with the very well-respected, professional artist David Storey. Guests will spend the day with David at his studio, where they will learn invaluable skills and create their own work of art created on canvas. David paints predominantly in oils. His emotive paintings explore a shifting world of half-remembered characters, forgotten places and lost moments. His work is regularly exhibited in galleries across the UK, and has sold to private collectors around the world. Have a look at his website www.davidstoreyartist.co.uk.
