Ce que vous allez faire
For the Halloween special we will do the regular, but then walk to the start of the famous Halloween parade at 6th Avenue and Soho. Show up in costume if you like. First, come have a glass of wine and hear about the history of the building, about loft living, and personal stories of the Soho artistic life. Then we will draw. Outside, people are always looking up and photographing my landmarked art nouveau Little Singer Building . You get the inside view. As this is the first building in New York to have floor to ceiling windows, the loft provides super light and vast city views, which guests can draw. There are lots of wonderful things to draw here. We might try self-portrait, something I've done a lot of. You will see a few on my walls. My NYU students do two self portraits every semester, one with an animal that represents them. The results are great. In fact, there are animals in most of my narrative figure and landscape work. Sometimes I use studies from the Museum of Natural History, sometimes taxidermy in the loft.
I am a narrative artist living and working in a historic Soho loft for 40 years. In my own work, I blend bold modernist composition with traditional techniques to capture the magic of the human drama. I’ve had 14 one-person shows in New York plus a museum show in Seattle. Since 1979, I've been teaching at New York University -- beginners to advanced. I pride myself on being able to teach almost anyone how to draw better. I enjoy hosting unique local experiences and providing a behind-the-scenes view into one of NY's most adored neighborhoods. You can see my work at www.lisazwerling.com

We will sketch inside my live/work studio loft located in the heart of the Soho Cast Iron Historic District. Built in 1903 as the offices and factory space for the Singer Sewing Machine Company, the building was designed in the Art Nouveau style by a Beaux-Arts trained New York architect. The architectural landmark features the first floor-to-ceiling glass windows in NY, terra-cotta panels, characteristic cast iron ornaments, and the famous arch.
