Ce que vous allez faire
You will explore the diverse ecosystems and plant communities in Red Rock Canyon through the practical lens of ethnobotany! We will meet at the Willow Springs picnic area in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, and proceed to hike approximately 2-3 miles within the vicinity, exploring the ancient dwellings and petroglyphs of the peoples who called this area home. Along the way, I will point out the edible and useful plants, and give a brief botanical description followed by an example of its usage (since this is a national conservation area we will not be picking any of the plants). This walk will take approximately 2 hours.
I have spent the last several years traveling the Western United States and getting to know its diverse ecosystems and plant and animal communities. This past summer, I volunteered with the National Park Service working with the Native Plant Nursery and Demonstration Garden in the Grand Canyon, and currently volunteer with the Nevada Division of Forestry nursery via the Master Gardeners of Southern Nevada. In particular I am knowledgeable and passionate about ethnobotany and the uses of wild plants by the contemporary and prehistoric Native Peoples of the Southwest.
