Ce que vous allez faire
This hike starts from a designated parking area. Our nature experience begins immediately as we trek into the forest along the top of the Niagara Escarpment. After crossing some dry(ish) river beds that cut through the bedrock, we will find ourselves on the Bruce Trail, Canada's oldest and longest marked footpath. We will follow the trail as it winds its way over amazingly intricate rock formations and crevasses. As we go I will explain how these formations were made and why they are unique to the area. Along the way we are sure to see some local flora and fauna which I will point out. We might see everything from flowers to snakes! At a few perfect viewpoints, we can have a drink of water and take a photo op of forests, vineyards, and Lake Ontario. Eventually we'll get to a side trail that leads to the bottom of the escarpment and a very interesting "ice cave" that we can look into from its entrance. On the way down we'll make two stops. First at the "German Spy-Hole", a small cave that you can squeeze through if your not claustrophobic. Second, at the site of an interesting rock carving of a Native American. As we go, I'll share interesting local history and folklore
I grew up in the Niagara Region and have spent the last 27 years exploring all the coolest nooks & crannies along the Niagara Escarpment. At my day job, I help to manage a group of local nature conservation areas. I come equipped with a B.Sc. degree in Biology & Physical Geography, but more importantly tons of experience hiking in my local conservation areas. Join me on fun guided hikes to spots that only the locals know about. Learn about the plants and animals, invasive species, local geology, issues the ecosystem is facing, and some interesting local history. I look forward to meeting you!
