Au programme

There are certain areas in France known for it's ceramics. Limoges tends to be the most famous for it's porcelain, along with Sevres. However this area in the south is known also for it's ceramic work. Picasso came to this area to work with potters to create his ceramic art. Guests will learn about how to make things in clay, try the potters wheel, and learn about what is made here in the south of France. They will learn about the differences in clay, how to construct something, and how to finish it. I start the course with an informative overview of they types of clay, firing and the range of glazes. Guests will have a hands-on experience, with demonstrations, making something. People need to prepare to have fun, play and perhaps get dirty. We will conclude with finishing and painting. In the event people are in the area, they can have their piece fired in the kiln and pick it up at a later date. The time will be approximately 2 hours. Guests will also learn about the process in ceramics, used extensively in Italy, called majolica. People will gain a greater appreciation and information about how things are made in clay all over the world! Museums will be much more fun!

I have been passionate about ceramics since I first started when I was 17, Many many years later, I am just as passionate and enthusiastic. I have taught ceramics and drawing to beginners for over 30 years in a wide range of studio's, from Universities to community centers. I love to teach. The best part is the making of ceramics has not changed in over 5000 years so everything one has learned in grammar school is still applicable! I have taught drawing to people who swore they could not draw.. and they do, within an hour!
