We'll start at Homomonument—the first monument in the world dedicated to the gay and lesbian victims of the Holocaust. We'll walk through historic Amsterdam and enjoy the scenery while I tell you about the gay history of the city. We'll see the canals, the palace on Dam Square, and the Red Light District. Henk will enlighten you about being gay in the 17th Century and about prosecution during the centuries and how gay men and women found ways to live their lives. He takes you back to 1970 when social revolution and a gay writer paved the way for a thriving gay life in Amsterdam as Gay Capital. We'll end the tour at Café 't Mandje, a gay bar that opened in 1927.

I'm a history nerd and have been living in Amsterdam my whole life. I know a lot about Amsterdam, and as a gay man, I'm also very acquainted with both gay history and modern gay life in this amazing city.
Le lieu
We'll start with a walk in the old downtown and along the canals. We'll also see iconic sights like Westerkerk church, Anne Frank House, Dam Square, and the Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder museum. We'll end at one of the oldest gay bars in the city.

I wholeheartedly recommend going on this tour! It was the first thing i did after arriving in amsterdam and it gave a great introduction to the city and it's people, elegantly connecting the general history of amsterdam with it's queer past. Henk is a very liekable and entertaining guide and so full of knowledge!

Henk is extremely knowledgeable about Dutch history and wonderful to conversate with. This tour was definitely a highlight of my time in Amsterdam!
