Échanges avec les voyageurs

Myself, or a good friend or neighbor, will be here at my apartment to welcome you at check in, give you keys and information on the apartment, building and neighborhood and how to lock up if I can't meet you at check out.

Le quartier

The highly desired neighborhood is quite lively after the sun goes down. The East Village has been heavily built up over the last 5-10 years and located on the East side of Manhattan from 14th St down to Houston (same as street zero) which borders the LES (Lower East Side). Tompkins Square Park is a block away, which has basketball courts, dog run and plenty of benches and grassy areas to relax. You can walk to Indian, Russian, Italian, Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Vegetarian and American restaurants within a 5 block radius. If you're too tired and beat up from touring NYC and don't feel like going anywhere, you can simply order in and have anything delivered to the room (usually until 11 pm or midnight). And these little privately owned restaurants are MUCH better than midtown/tourist-trap food chain places. There are at least three 24/hr places to eat within 2 blocks. There are about 50 restaurant/bars/cafe's within a 3 block radius and probably 500 within a 10 block radius.

Subway (L, F, V) are about a 10 minute walk, or you can catch a bus on the closest corner and a 10 minute ride to Union Square where you can take any subway line to get anywhere in NYC..

Taxis everywhere, usually takes a minute or two standing in front of building.

I highly recommend walking. After living here my entire life, I've found it pretty much takes 20-40 minutes to get anywhere in Manhattan, FROM anywhere in Manhattan. Walking is free, by far the safest way to travel and you get to see cool stuff along the way and don't have to wait for anything.

Autres remarques

Please understand this is NOT a hotel! Daily maid services are not included. This is for use of a furnished apartment (bungalow) rental and loud noise will not be tolerated as there are full time tenants/neighbors that work normal business hours and my neighbors peace cannot and will not be disrupted. If you're a group of drinkers/clubbers who will be out late and loud at night, please do NOT inquire.

Règlement intérieur

Peut ne pas convenir aux bébés (moins de 2 ans)
L'entrée dans les lieux se fait à partir de 12:00

Please respect neighbors and no loud noise after 11pm.

NO SMOKING INSIDE (Building Rules), you must go outside on private patio to smoke cigarettes.

Please clean up after yourself. The house cleaner will come sanitize the apartment, but its not her job to do your dishes.

Take out all garbage (it's only 2 steps outside the apartment on the floor in the closet in hallway, which gets collected by the building every other day).

Merci Angel!

It's everything everyone has said. Wonderful beds, clean apartment, roomy, and economical, reasonably decorated, BUT, building is very old, warped floors (not an issue to me, character), and entire apartment has only 2 15 amp circuits. Just enough power for one floor heater and the refrigerator and light. Access to circuit panel (1940 era panels) is blocked by neighbors trash bag, has open wiring and so high up for units breakers that short person could not reset it safely. While we were there breaker popped 4 times and room went pitch black, till we learned just cannot have more than one heater on for long. All the electrical is sketchy and most plugs worn out making very poor contact (could result in electrical fire). We had a mouse that came in through the back of the stove. So keep food protected. Shower worked well once you learned to turn the handle to 2 o'clock and leave it for 5 to 10 minutes. the bathroom extremely narrow, not uncommon for period, obese will have issues, and the 2nd vanity medicine cabinet over the tiny wash basin made the sink unusable for shaving as cabinet blocked your head. Put a regular mirror over the sink. We found the TV unplugged and unusable without any antenna and extreme lack of power. Fortunately the only thing modern in building is great wifi. There is no microwave nor power to handle one. Though the beds, were very good quality and I slept well. One bedroom, which I slept was right at a busy intersection, but After 11 traffic died down and I slept soundly with ear plugs. Unlike many places in that part of NYC no noisy or drunken neighbors. Front door was an issue, we had two keys, Both obviously cut wrong, one just stopped working. Rain on building lock did not help matters, I'd seen other reviewers complain of this issue and half day later response of host.

I'm not really sure what to say? Perhaps you confused my place with the place you stayed after my place??? You mentioned in feedback to me that I was unreachable and late for check in?? I met your son early in day, then came back to let you in. You then went to another apartment, which you had told me you had issues with, not me! You never informed me of any of this during your week stay. Surely, I would have been there within an hour to show you or let you know how to plug TV in (not sure who unplugged it, as I was watching it when your son checked in). It is the guests responsibility to inform the apt owner if something isn't working, which I always emphasize at check in as well. The microwave is on top of the fridge and it works just fine and it needed cleaning from all food, which you obviously used it. I've only had the power go out once (from hair dryer, which trip circuit breakers everywhere). The circuit breaker panel is in the kitchen, not in hallway. The TV was on when your son checked in, as I always make sure it is on and working when guests arrive. I have Time Warner cable with extra premium sports and movie channels (HBO, Sho, etc.) that is plugged into the WiFi router, with DVR as well. This apartment is as quiet as can be more than any other apartment in NYC. Front door lock is fine, I've never had an issue opening. It doesn't work if you put the key in backwards. Which will also damage the lock if you force it in wrong direction. Occasionally other tenants don't close it properly and the outer door is unlocked at times. Yes, the building is old, but the floors are not warped, as it's on ground floor on cement slab (basement doesn't come under my apt in the back non-street facing. As for bathroom, I'm 6'1, yeah, it's a little small, it's NYC, but has a full tub + shower where even a tall guy like me doesn't have to bend down to get my head wet. As I explained at check in, my apt is on ground floor with it's own private backyard, leaving food OUT will certainly attract animals and bugs, which I emphasize not to do. I'm sorry all these typical NYC old apartment building issues didn't suit your needs for your stay, perhaps a hotel may be better suited for your needs??

Angel's place is just as he described. I stayed there alone but it's definitely big enough for a couple to share too. The private patio was a great bonus and I hope my next stay is warm enough to enjoy it. I love alphabet city and recommend this place to anyone looking for value in a cute yet still edgy neighborhood.

Angel is totally upfront and accurate with pictures and expectations. Angel takes good care of the place, is easy to reach just in case, and stocks the place with things we like ahead of time: vey thoughtful and attentive host that is flexible enough to work for all kinds of guests.
