Wonderful place, location, and host. Right on the promenade around Westlake (used for cycling, running, and in the evenings, corso, by the locals and expats alike - 15 km of low-traffic and scenic workout or romance if you like it). Within crawling distance to a few very nice restaurants and pubs, and within walking distance to tons of restaurants, bars, cafes, and a couple of supermarkets, even a gym and spas). The whole areas is home to a lot of expats and both the infrastructure and the all-round attitude shows that. The trip to Hoan Kiem lake and the old quarter takes about 15 minutes by motorbike (if you're new to Asia check out the "Grab" app as a local alternative to Uber with a lot more options), a little longer by taxi depending on traffic. The slight remove from the city is more than balanced by much better air, though.
The place itself feels spacious and luxurious, and the light and view in the front room (living, dining, kitchen) is very hard to beat. The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with an aquarium-like shower space like in the best five-star hotels, very nice touch. The building is wider than most Hanoian townhouses (which allows the gorgeous front room and balcony) and has some space to the neighboring buildings (making the bedrooms' windows a good daylight source and allowing you to open them for some air when the Hanoian weather allows).
Phuong was a great and incredibly supportive and responsive host, accommodating all our wishes and requests almost instantaneously. For instance when we asked whether we could put a repeater in to boost the wifi in the back bedroom she had a second hotspot installed within a day. Absolutely great. And in perfect English, too, which is still not the norm in Hanoi. Her staff and the security guys were equally helpful and friendly, and overall we felt extremely welcome and safe for the whole of our almost two weeks there.
What else to say? We had a great time at Phuong's place and will be coming back given even half a chance. Thank you!
