Le logement

Le Déserteur is located in a very special location: in the Center of busy Verbier – in 5 minutes walking from Place Central - and still remote, in full nature, with no obstructed view, only trees and mountains. The Chalet has a special history, as it was during 40 years the home of a local Verbier family: the Casanova’s. One of the sons, Raymond, still owns the apartment at the basement level.

Our Chalet is furnished in a very personal way - not much like a holiday place. It is our home in the Alps from where we practice various mountain hobbies. It also encompasses various art pieces and some antiques. We trust that you value this environment and that you will treat everything with care.

The view from the large south oriented balcony is overwhelming overlooking the steeply down-sloping forest which is part of the property. The impressive mountain ranges of Grand Combin and Mont Blanc are far enough to letting the sun shine in the Chalet from early morning into the evening. The Eastern c.q. Western terraces offer opportunities for early and late-afternoon outside gatherings.

Entering through the front door you arrive in a welcoming hallway. We always take out our boots and outside shoes here, as the floors and stairs are of beautiful wood, which are vulnerable to wet and dirt. In the hallway on your left above the heater, you will find a warm storage for wet clothing and shoes. Straight ahead are the living, the dining room and the open kitchen with the spectacular views through large windows. Up the stairs you find two bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchenette. Down the stairs are the third bedroom and the toilet; even further down, through the door, is a shower room. The first door to the left leads to the cellar where a washing machine and a dryer is to be found. The rest of the cellar is private, as well as through the locked door straight ahead down the stairs, next to the shower-room, leading to the Casanova apartment. The storage for the skis and boots is outside, next to front door. One parking place to be used is in the garage of the neighboring chalet Beau Vallon; it can be reached through their garage entrance; parking can be done at the middle spot (out of three) at the very end of the garage.

The kitchen is fully equipped and the utensils may be used assuming proper use and cleaning. The open dining room is also furnished for serving six or more people. We trust that all is taken well care, like the Wedgwood tableware.

The wooden surfaces in the kitchen, the dining table and cupboard, and the antique tables and furniture in the living, have no protection lacquer top layer. This means that all these are very vulnerable to any heat, water or any other liquid. Please use table mats and coasters everywhere.

The living room is furnished with antique furniture from the family generations and as such vulnerable, so all of this should treated with respect. You can use the tv-set, the dvd-player and cd-player. There is obviously a wifi, and there is an open office space. Also you may use the open fireplace. There is a semi-level office space and obviously a wifi has been installed.

In the bedrooms the open spaces of the fixed wardrobes can be used. You will find still some of our stuff stored in these. Towels are available. If you would clean, use the available detergents that are environmentally friendly.

Please note that our Chalet is an absolute non-smoking place. The family suffers severe allergies, thus smoking cannot take place in any place inside the building. If you would smoke outside, take away all what is left of your cigarettes/cigares.

We do hope that a stay in Le Déserteur will appeal to you. Our mountain home is dear to us, and that is the reason that it is only available during certain periods when we are not staying there ourselves. Our Chalet is in a good state for our guests and for us, but it takes care and respect to keep it that way. If you decide while you are staying in Verbier, to rent Le Déserteur for a week or more, we wish you a lot of satisfaction and pleasure.

Also involved in various civic boards , i.e. sports, nature parks and culture . I am 45 years happily married with Liesbeth, an archeologist; we have gotten 3 grown-up children who each follow their own successful path. My biggest hobby is mountaineering which I still practice, spending one quarter of my time in the Alps or Himalayas. My wife and I attend frequently classical concerts with the world-famous Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. My wife is the animator of our contemporary visual art collection.
