Le logement
Some guest reviews:
'A splendid majestic wondrous secluded sacred place' ;
'We decided to miss our flight out just to stay another night here';
'David's rainforest walk is the equal of any bush walk I have done for enjoyment'.

Fern Gully Falls is indeed a destination in itself and it features in the Qantas AWOL's "10 Things to Do in Hobart" website. With its surroundings this is a perfect place to be more sustainable, do some slow travel and stay awhile in nature in seclusion.

Luxuriate in a piping hot bath amongst forest tree tops flood lit at night on your private cliff edge. Sleep in star view on a king pure natural latex bed. Overview the large property by climbing up the cliff tops or taking one the walks featuring several water falls that vary with rainfall and season. Complete privacy, you are the sole guests. For experienced walkers ascend the mount to find 360 degree views all the way to Hobart (said by some to rival Mt Wellington) without any tourists around. Tiny houses in size are more like caravans than they are houses.

Fascinating adjuncts to your stay include the vintage items that fill the tiny house with even the smallest details. A selection of music and movies from 1910 on the same era enhance the nostalgia.

Air conditioned. Towels are high end Turkish ultra thin cotton which have a truly outstanding eco footprint. Linen is often vintage or hand dyed. Washed in eco friendly fragrance free powder it may appear worn or faded and won't smell like flowers but is always freshly cleaned. Vintage items are kept and repaired in their natural character state. They are worn but functional and need gentle handling to preserve their value.

Buildings feature some 50% recycled materials and are energy self sufficient. The tiny house power outlets function full time but only 1 of the 3 utilities run at a time (AC, cooker or hot water). Electric heater use is recommended. The small kitchen is fully operational including a 50L fridge, toaster and kettles both in vintage and modern models. The vintage 1940 stove top has 2 elements on a fixed heat (equivalent to a modern stove medium) and no oven. There is a big selection high end teas and coffees, sugar and spices, tin soups, tin vegies, beans, coconut cream, oil, various cereals, oats, spreads and soy milk plus produce from the greenhouse including tomatoes and strawberries and home made jams depending on season. Ask for home made soy yoghurt. The tinyhouse is a major donor to the Tasmanian Land Conservancy, state wildlife rescue and Animals Australia.

Accès des voyageurs
Self check in is between 3 and 8. I recommend arrival in daylight to avoid navigating the steep path to the tinyhouse at night. The well maintained gravel road readily suites 2WDs with the last 1600m being quite steep. Paths here are steep on natural uneven stones. You walk them at your own risk. Bush tracks also walk ledges and along fallen trees. Keep in mind they are particularly risky for the infirm, pregnant, obese, elderly people or young children. In addition the loft and ladder is ceiling high at 2.4m and is a unsuited to those intoxicated.

Autres remarques
The area has 3 and 4G wireless coverage but you will need your own plan & device. No wifi.

New Norfolk itself boasts a great many antique shops, a Saturday main street market, fascinating cemeteries, a colonial derelict "lunatic" asylum over a massive land area, the fine dining Agrarian Kitchen, Cafes and walks along the Derwent River and great lookouts. It is centrally located with outbound roads to Mona, Gordon Dam, the Tall Trees, the Styx, the Overland Track south end, Maydena bike trails or Mt Field and onward to the west coast attractions. Why ride on the old rail line on a pedal rail rider.

A Vipassana Meditation centre is nearby offering 10 day courses which need advanced booking and are not for the faint hearted but can be life changing.

Or head up our creek and scale Mt Dromendary for truly stunning 360 degree views that stretch from deep inland to beyond Hobart, and best of all no tourists.

Progressive social and environmental philosophy are central to my identity. This place seems to attract similar minded guests which is very encouraging to me. Air seems to be a good fit for my CFS allowing me to enjoy making the property appealing to guests in my own time. I have a soft spot for helping out animals.
