We stayed at Ronald's place for almost a full month in January 2016. We spent A LOT of time at the place, because we were there working on a book project.
First, the apartment complex. Nice facilities. Three pools that are beautiful and well maintained. A security officer is on duty 24/7. The complex is gated, and the permanent residents are mostly families. It's not fully occupied by any means, and there definitely a few other units that are used as short term rentals. There are usually festivities on the weekend that can sometimes last until 12-1AM, but otherwise it's a quiet place to stay. The beach is beautiful and peaceful, but it's not really for swimming. The rip tide is too severe. Good news is that a swimmable public beach is only 10 minutes away by car. You NEED a car to live here.
The apartment itself isn't the most comfortable or amazing place I've ever stayed it, but it did the job. There are AC units in each of the rooms, but there is none in the living room (you don't really need it...at least we didn't in January). The kitchen appliances could definitely use an upgrade, as could the furniture. The master bedroom is pretty comfortable, and the bed is huge. When we went there was no internet in the apartment. We had to use a hotspot, or go outside to the Gazebo nearby. The internet there was pretty fast, and the weather was perfect, so it worked out OK during the days.
Loiza is a historic area. Definitely read up on this history before you come here, so you can fully appreciate it. It's not a super walkable area, but you can explore a bit by foot during the day. There are beautiful public beaches everywhere, and it's only 30-45 minutes from the rainforest. Go to El Yunque! You will not regret it.
