À propos de ce logement
Surrounded by woodland, 5 minutes walk from village shops and 20 minutes drive from beautiful, historic Lucca, a place to relax in peace or explore: Pisa 50 mins, Florence 1 hour, coastal resorts 50 mins, stunning Garfagnana National Park 20 mins.
La Fornace and Casa Fiona are 100 year old, fully restored traditional Tuscan houses: bathrooms and kitchens and all services are new, whilst the character has been retained. The houses can be rented separately, or together for larger parties. This offers room typically for two families or family plus grandparents where outside facilities are shared, but privacy can be sought indoors.
'La Fornace' takes its name from the nearby brick kiln, from which the houses were built, and which housed its workers' families. The ground floor of La Fornace was the 'cantina', where animals lived, and the restored space retains its historic character from rough stone and brick walls, and chestnut beam ceilings. It contains a spacious kitchen with all conveniences, and large and beautiful dining room. Adjoining the front terrace, it is an ideal space to enjoy the cool in the summer heat, or feast in the evening.
On the first floor is a spacious and well lit living room, opening at the back on to a terrace with views over the valley. A wood stove, and Tuscan terracotta tiles, yellow wash walls and dark chestnut beams combine here to create a warm and characterful space to read and relax in. Along the corridor, the master bedroom is the most peaceful and magical room in the whole house, its tiled floor, beamed ceiling and brick walls all original, with a balcony overlooking the surrounding woodland. Opposite is a modern bathroom (bath, shower, toilet, basin).
On the second floor are three further bedrooms. The second bedroom is large with a high ceiling and its chestnut windows giving on to woodland. Another double room at the back of the house has extensive views over the valley, and the fourth bedroom can either be a comfortable adult single or childrens' double. All are decorated in local style. There is a shower room with toilet and basin.
'Casa Fiona' adjoins Casa Fornace and is a gem of a cottage for a couple plus child (or two children). The floors and ceilings had completely collapsed when we bought this property, but walls and roof beams are original and have been tastefully incorporated into the restoration which uses local chestnut from the Garfagnana national park around.
The front door is accessed from the main terrace. On the ground floor there is a living and eating area with galley kitchen, which includes gas hob, electric oven , and large 'Belfast' style sink. Windows look on to the pool and garden.
Upstairs a stunning and spacious double bedroom with high ceiling includes access to the back terrace, a lovely spot to catch the early rays with a coffee and a book. The second bedroom offers plentiful room and comfort for another adult or two children. Both rooms enjoy a glorious view over the garden and pool.
The peace and beauty of the houses, garden and pool in their woodland surroundings, the convenience and friendliness of the village and the opportunities presented by the nearby cities, beaches and hills of Tuscany. Many holidays to cherish at once.

Our local Italian house manager Anna speaks fluent English and Italian. She will ensure you settle in well and she is both local and available throughout your stay.
Bookings can be made from Saturday to Saturday only. The road to the house is short but quite steep and as the property lies on a hillside we do not recommend it to the elderly or under 3s. (We spent holidays there with our toddler children so alternatively one just needs to take care; a garden gate secures the terrace area and stairgates can be fitted). There is a narrow staircase leading to the second floor of La Fornace. The pool is open from end May (half term week) to the end of September.

The past week was a fantastic holiday! Even though there were eight of us there was plenty of room for everyone. All in all we can only recommend La Fornace to anyone who wants to chill in an idyllic place. Swimming pool is great, the kids enjoyed it every day.
The house is ideally suited for visiting Lucca, Pisa, Barga and Bagni di Lucca which we would recommend to anyone looking for good food and atmosphere. The village shop was great for bread and cheese, and the pizzeria for the evening.
An idyllic spot! Far exceeded my expectations. Highlights were cycling around Lucca's historic walls, walking through the old town of Barga and eating out overlooking the river at Bagni di Lucca. The train ride from Diecimo to Equa Terra was spectacular, as was the drive to Barga through the mountains.
We had day trips to Barga, to Pisa to see the tower, and to the beach at Viareggio - all recommended. We hope to return one day.
Everyone had a fantastic time in your magnificent house. All of us were delighted . The children loved the pool and spent hours splashing in it.
Great venue for family get togethers! Scenery wonderful, villagers very friendly.
Please only smoke outside and do not sit on soft furnishings in wet swimming costumes. We ask that rubbish is bagged up and left out as instructed. On this and any other matter Anna our house manager will help.
