Le logement

This is a cozy retro Japanese house in a peaceful location close to hot springs, and Niseko Moiwa and Annupuri Ski Resorts. Perfect for powder hunters and regular skier/snowboarders. Away from the hustle and bustle of Hirafu, this is where you come to find peace and powder. This is not the place to stay if you wish to be in the party hub, you cannot walk to shops from here, but it is perfect for those who really want to experience the magic of the Niseko area.

We have four bunk beds in one bedroom and four Japanese style futons. A good sized living room with TV and sofa bed perfect for stretching before and after skiing/snowboarding, fully equipped kitchen, Japanese style tatami room/2nd bedroom with a kotatsu (heated table), loft for extra sleeping room, great bathroom with deep bath and washing machine, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, gas cooktop, humidifier.

Retro Lodge was a great place for our family to stay. We were four kids, one teenager, three grown ups and we all fit it comfortably (Nb. the attic room gets really warm so the person who sleeps there should be the one who least enjoys the cold; the bunk bed room is small and doesn't have much space for stuff/luggage.) The best thing was the onsen down the road, a really nice one with outdoor baths, and we never actually used the bathroom at the house! The kitchen is small but works well and the house had some japanese features that we appreciated like the screen doors to the main bedroom and the toasty table. The house is situated amongst other houses but they are quite spread apart and there are lots of trees around. Restaurants and shops are 10-20 mins away, there are some slopes about 5 min away but not open when we were there (main slopes about 20mins away) and you'll definitely need a car. Clare was very helpful and when we left some cables behind she made the effort to contact us and send them to us. Thanks Clare, it was a great holiday for us.

We had such an enjoyable stay. So perfectly situated, cosy and peaceful. We loved being tucked away and out of the hussle and bustle but being not so secluded that we couldn't enjoy the main centre if we wanted. Our whole experience was great, easy, chilled out and enjoyable. The owners were lovely, supportive and it was great knowing they were easy to contact and very responsive. Could not recommend this place enough. What a little hidden gem.

Lovely and cozy house in the niseko area. We really liked to stay here. It's a calm neighbourhood. There are couple restaurants, onsens and the ski areas of Moiwa and Niseko Annupuri just nearby. Big thanks to Claire and John for the help ans support during our stay.

We've traveled with 7 adults to ski at Niseko, for 4Days 5Nights! We all fitted in with space to spare! The house is around 20mins drive away from the main slope/town. We've enjoyed nights-in cooking dinner and drinking, rather than being in the crowd in town! There's also a bath house with outdoor bathing areas, only 5mins drive away costing only 800yen/pp! The host is also very responsive, we've experienced a rare blackout one night, the host came over immediately and checked on us and make sure everything was okay!

Our stay was perfect...despite travel disruptions owing to the super snow storm in Sapporo, the strongest in 50 years, resulting in flights cancellations and we were stuck in Tokyo... Claire is just awesome.. we would not be able to re-schedule everything without her help. From booking to checking out, she has been feeding us with helpful information and guidance, from van rental, restaurant reservations, gear rental at discounted rate, snow mountain suggestion, onsen recommendations with full addresses, bus schedule to a lot others... The house is exactly as described, cozy and well equipped. We like its location in a way that it's off from the Hirafa bustle but with easy access to onsens, supermarkets, and mountains. You do need a car to move around; Moiwa and Annupuri are just a couple of minutes to reach by car and for Hirafu will be around 15-20 minutes and Kutchan around 30 minutes. Claire is also very responsive. Whenever we have a question or a small request, we are being promptly attended to. John who is living opposite, popped up to say hello after we checked in and lent us his own table gas burner so that we could enjoy Shabu Shabu! Claire's husband, Kwok, did also drop by on New Year's eve... heartfelt thanks to all of them We would definitely stay again in Claire's place if we go this year again to Niseko. No place will be better than this!!

Claire was a reliable host. She replied all our concerns and questions. Place was warm, nice and clean just like in the picture. Everything was perfect except the odors that came from the bathroom. Location is great if you drive. It is within minutes to all 4 ski area. Please check the weather forecast before you leave or you will be stranded at the airport. Flights may be canceled due to snow storm. Returning by train is recomended. Love to come and stay again next year...
