Le logement

The Eco StayBus, ‘the Bus that Rocks'
A unique holiday accommodation apartment. We have obtained a huge, redundant ex Barbados Transport Board Mercedes bus. Completely refurbished and restyled as a Reggae Bus – we call it ‘The Bus that Rocks'. It has sleeping for four people (a queen size and two single beds) a kitchen with gas burners and ice box, a dinette to seat four people and a bathroom (a toilet and wash hand basin. ) The al-fresco shower is encased in local bamboo and located on the rear deck. Al fresco eating too, with rattan table and chairs on the deck - sun loungers aswell! The wood deck runs the length of the bus and its width at the rear. There is a tropic hammock for your use , strung between two coconut trees. On the outside of the bus is a barbeque grill with tools also a fire pit (if you like bonfires).
All electricity supplied to our bus is solar and includes LED lighting and a music sound system. Wi-Fi Internet is available to those who wish to use it and we provide you with a local cellphone.
So now you can live in a truly carbon neutral environment and give back to Mother Nature. The "Good Life" too.
The bus is nestled under coconut trees and a massive bearded fig tree (after which Barbados got its name), has its own tropical garden and private road access; yet it is within shouting distance of the main Ecolodge house (us). The view is of the Atlantic Ocean to the east and you will swear you can see clean across to West Africa and with stunning red and orange sunrises. If you like nature, you can walk for miles undisturbed and spot much local wildlife (the Barbados Green Monkeys, mongoose, a myriad of tropical birds – you may even spot tiny, whistling tree frogs). The silence here is only broken by the sound of these marvelous little creatures together with the amazingly restful sound of crickets. If you prefer the high life, you are within 20 minutes of any of the beaches, restaurants, nightclubs and up market shops of which the Island abounds.
We are happy to leave you to enjoy yourselves yet equally happy to advise you on other pursuits, best restaurants, car rental etc (the later is highly recommended).
Due the lands terrain, steep and rocky in areas, this listing is not suitable for children under 10 years old.

Accès des voyageurs

The Eco StayBus & the extensive gardens and grounds. Private road and parking.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

We will be here to welcome you when you arrive. Naturally we will show you around all the features and benefits of the bus and surroundings. You will be invited to Ecolodge for a welcome drink and chat. Equally we are happy to leave you to your privacy if you wish.

Autres remarques

It is strongly recommended that a hire (rental) vehicle be obtained as the Barbados Ecolodge & Eco StayBus are in 'rural' Barbados.
Mosquito netting is provided for all beds.

We really enjoyed a memorable stay with Grahame and Andrea. They are wonderful hosts and great people in general. Prior to arrival, they ensured that everything was clearly and promptly communicated, and even arranged a reasonably priced car rental. (A car is highly recommended, if not crucial. Glad I heeded their advice on this.) When we got lost on our drive in, Grahame hopped in his car and drove to where we were and guided us the rest of the way. During our stay, they made sure we had everything we needed and then some. Their generosity and hospitality was sincere, and we really enjoyed hanging out and exchanging stories with them as well as their fun and friendly neighbours. As for the bus and the property itself: If you are after some peaceful relaxation in a beautiful and novel setting, this is the place to be. The photos in the listing don't do it justice. This was the best experience I've had through this service thus far.

Grahame & Andrea live to host; their glamping set-up is a rare find on an island bent towards luxury honeymooners and vacation homes for billionaires. Mike and I stayed there for a couple days in the rain and sun with our friend Scarlet. As experienced campers and travelers we found getting there via a small rented jeep we collected at the airport quite simple and straightforward. We relied on the (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps link via the Airbnb** confirmation which took us to Mellows Hill, (somewhere that's nowhere) and simply continued a quarter mile or so farther along the road to the Eco Lodge sign. We made cocktails* from fresh limes grown on the property; grilled sweet potatoes and fresh Mahi Mahi we'd purchased along the way at the fish market above Holetown over charcoal at the bus, and dined by candlelight on the porch entertained by the fireflies, lizards and the neighbor's dogs. We ventured out by car to watch the waves crash into the rocky shore at Bathsheba, visited Anthony Hunte's spectacular (nearby) gardens, and drove into Oistens on Friday night for the Fish Fry. We'll always remember our afternoon "teas" with Grahame & Andrea, and look forward to seeing them again when we return. * Anthony Hunte's punch recipe: one part simple sugar, two parts fresh lime juice, three parts golden rum. Float liberally with Angostura Bitters, serve in a nice glass over ice. ** Nerds should route to this exact address: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)"W or (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)

We let you discover the amazing Econolodge bus. You have all what you need. Very clean, quite, safe, confortable, 6 minutes for a little market, near Forest flowers, Hunt's garden, Harrison's cave, Bathsheba and other beach. You can made your own candle. If you want to know about the Barbadian life, do not hesitate to book with Grahame and Andrea. Wonderfull persons.

You're not going to find a richer AirBNB experience than at Grahame and Andrea's and on their wonderful bus! The lodging and the location are both as memorable as you will find in the world of travel. The rough roads leading to the bus require patience and laser focus on your driving, but it is well worth it!

We had the most delighting retreat in the middle of nowhere (quiet nowhere). A lot of good energy especially in the contact with the kind owners Andrea and Grahame.

G&A were very accommodating from the beginning. With our plane coming in late, they met us off of the highway to guide us to the bus. We specifically sought out this particular AirBnB because of its unique charm and the fact that it was a converted eco-friendly bus. The bus was exactly what we expected: off the beaten path and unique. We enjoyed coffee with G&A every morning and meeting their great neighbors. We enjoyed our stay so much we will definitely be returning in the future!

We are UK expats and have lived in Barbados for 20 years. As well as the eco-bus we have a candle making business supplying gift shops, restaurants, hotels and large private houses. We firmly believe that you get what you give! We live in the NOW!
