Le logement

Casa Serendip is an idyllic & tranquil homestay located in the verdant village of Canca-Verla, adjacent to Parra. It is situated on the grounds of a historic Portuguese villa, which has been dated from 1452 A.D. The house has seen as many as half a dozen bishops reside here as well as the Pinto-Braganza family, the current owners, after whom the village and Vaddo (village district) are named. The Cottages are a new addition to the property and are built around many gorgeous trees on the property like mango, palm, breadfruit, banana, chickoo, & bamboo. Every cottage has its own unique style and individual personality. All the furniture in the rooms and around the garden was made out from up cycled wood found on the property. The gardens are blissfully shaded throughout the day. One gets to see so many varieties of birds that stop by to drink at our birdbaths or tweet in our fruit trees. Loads of Butterflies and other exotic insects make our gardens their home and sometimes fireflies grace our rooms. We often have Langur monkeys, civet cats, squirrels and mongooses that visit us at night. The cottages are located in the garden behind the house, so it’s a fair distance from the road and mostly calm & serene.

Accès des voyageurs

Guests have open access to all garden areas where they can relax in the hammocks or on the recycled wood furniture. We also have a lifestyle store & gift shop in the salon of the house. The Salon has the original hand painted ceramic tiles, which are hundreds of years old and absolutely stunning. The 8inch wide wooden planks in the upstairs bedrooms that make up the floor are gorgeous. We also have a chapel to St Anne in our dining room, since six generations of the same family have lived here there is an abundance of antique Goan furniture all over our home (our favorite is the palanquin). Six hundred years of history within these walls! If only walls could talk.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

We can only accommodate 7 guests and it's never too busy so you can enjoy your privacy at ease. Between nisha and the two maids we can cater to many varied cuisines from all over india and continental, we are happy to cater to any special requests. We also offer culinary classes and curated excursions for our guests. We look forward to hosting you in our own little slice of paradise.

Le quartier

Though Parra, Canca and Verla villages are clubbed together into a single parish, the area has two separate panchayats and three Comunidades (Parish Community). The caju (Cashew) covered hills hedge the North-West from Assagao, Anjuna and Arpora in an emerald semi-circle. Otherwise Parra shares borders with Mapusa, Guirim and Nagoa. The undulating topography dissolves in the vast, fertile sandy plains, and sprawls over 3.5 square kilometres of picturesque countryside. One can't leave the village without visiting its monumental landmark, the church of St Anne built in 1649. The church has beautiful murals done on its vast ceiling and was notably attacked by the forces of King Sambhaji while the Luso-Maratha war was on in 1683.A short ride to the north is Mapusa city with its historical, cultural and religious site and teeming market which is a must for shopping local delicacies and curios

Casa Serendip is:

2.2 kms (5mins) from Mapusa Bus Stand
8 kms (20 mins) from Anjuna beach
10 kms from (20 mins) Calangute/Candolim
11.6 kms (25-35 mins) from Thivim Railway Station
12 kms from (20 mins) from Panjim
22 kms (45-60 mins depending on the traffic) from Diabolic airport
31 kms (30-45 mins depending) from Ashvem/Morjim Beach

Assagao and Arpora have many Holistic healing centres and Spas offering many a range of healing techniques like Yoga, Watsu, Accupunture, Massage & ayurvedic Therapies. Anjuna & Vagator to the west are world famous for nightlife & parties and Ashvem & Morjim Beaches are close enough to explore…

Profil utilisateur de Nisha

Nisha and her husband Tarun and their ten year old son moved to goa in may 2015. They run a cozy homestay with four rooms in the garden of their Portuguese Villa that was built in 1452. They enjoy all kinds of cusine and discovering new places to eat. Nisha is a home cook and enjoys cooking for her family and friends. Her idea if a good meal is to keep the food as fresh as possible, wholesome and balanced. She loves that the produce in Goa is so fresh compared to what you get in the city. She has a vast repertoire of Gujarati, north Indian and Goan dishes. She would love to share her love for good food with you. It's easy to get recipes for great meals online but if you don't have the ingredients it's hard to make , so besides teaching you how to cook she would also like to help you buy all the spices to take back to recreate what you have learned for your families. She believes in the energy that goes into you food and feels that food cooked at home is the best as the love that goes into it is more than food you eat in any commercial establishment.
I love to read and my favourite author is Terry Pratchett's. I also enjoy diy projects. I have painted all the garden chairs. Lamps etc on the property also the dreamcatchers and giant origami flowers etc are made by me. I find creating things very relaxing and fun. We love the beach which is one of the reasons we moved here. So far we have been really lucky with the.people who have come stay with us. We have enjoyed hanging out together and becoming friends. I was a stewardess with Kuwait airways for 9 years so taking care of people comes easy to me. I look forward to hosting people who are looking for a more authentic way of experiencing goa. We have been coming here for the last twenty years and have been living here since 2015 we are happy to share tips with you so you can make the most of your vacation. Come .. Stay awhile
