Cockatoo Cottage is furnished with antiques and the finest of linens, and overlooks tropical and cottage gardens, in a bushland setting. Set on 4 acres in the beautiful Samford Valley, with abundant birdlife, you can enjoy the antics of the cockatoos at the bird feeder, and hand feed the friendly kookaburra. Very quiet location, yet less than 4 minutes from Samford village, and some 30 minutes from Brisbane central.

The cottage is newly built, with fresh new bathroom, and granite top kitchenette. It has a ceiling fan and air conditioning (cooling and heating) for your comfort, and is fully screened.

The suite is furnished with a queen size mahogany bed, fine white linens (100% pure white cotton) with accents by Laura Ashley, or Martha Stewart. ALL of the soft furnishings - not just the bed linen - are freshly laundered, as we pride ourselves on the space being meticulously clean.

The generous space includes a wardrobe, soft and comfortable leather sofa (which converts to a double bed), dining table, kitchenette, flat screen television, and bathroom with shower. We wouldn't recommend the sofa bed for adults though; our recommendation is that it used for a young child only.

There is an outdoor area, paved with granite tiles, on which you can enjoy a morning cuppa with the birds, or evening drink under the stars. This looks out on to a cottage garden, and tropical garden backdrop, which then leads down to a swimming pool, which you are welcome to use; pool/beach towels are provided for you.

The kitchenette provides a sink, kettle, toaster, microwave, and bar fridge.

The fridge is stocked with homemade butter, pure honey (from our beehives), homemade peanut paste, jams, passionfruit curd and marmalades. We grow what we can ourselves and everything else is sourced locally and organically.

We will provide your choice of freshly baked bread for toast, muffins, crumpets, cereals, muesli or oats for porridge. Also, milk, juice, tea, coffee, and hot chocolate. The fruit bowl will be full of seasonal fruits, or melons in the fridge.

There is an electric gate to access the property, and you will be given a remote control key to use for the duration of your stay. Access is then via a pathway from the shared driveway/parking area, and up sandstone steps to the main entry door of your private cottage. You are most welcome to enjoy the rest of the garden, fire pit, and swimming pool area, all set on 4 acres (of largely bushland).

We have travelled widely ourselves, and enjoy interaction with guests, but we do consider your privacy as extremely important, and you are left to initiate any contact during your stay. We are always happy to provide tips on good local restaurants and points of interest.

This is a quiet area with only the birds to make noise. It is situated on 4 acres, as are most of the properties in the area. You will usually see no other people during your stay; plenty of birdlife, and the chance of seeing wallabies, and (if you're really lucky) a koala.

Samford village has some great cafes, which are very popular, and provides all the essentials (including locally made fruit gelato, which is getting quite a reputation). For takeaways, you can bring home Thai, fish and chips, organic chicken and chips (or roasted vegetables), gourmet pizzas, Indian and Chinese. Quite a choice, for a small village. No McDonalds or KFC etc here. The local IGA has a deli, and provides ready to eat salads. There is a patisserie, and bakery (who add no preservatives, and bake fresh each day).

Dining options include the popular local pub, Flying Nun Cafe, Ya Ya Tapas Bar, Allegria (Italian) and Topiaries Beaumont; all of which are 2 - 4 minutes drive away.

Yugar and its surrounding areas are appreciated by those who enjoy nature; mountains, creeks, waterfalls, wildlife, trees and rainforest. It serves as the starting point for the Mt Mee Tourist Drive, with its winding road, cafes, and winery, and Mt Glorious Tourist Drive to quaint cafes, rainforest walks and lookouts.

Brisbane International Airport is under 40 minutes drive, as is the Brisbane CBD. The Sunshine Coast is just over an hour's drive from here, with beautiful Noosa a further 30 minutes (it's worth the extra drive).

If you are attending a wedding or event at nearby Topiaries Beaumont Function Centre in Draper, this accommodation is exactly 1.4 km away from this beautiful venue. It is also conveniently located to Samsonvale Hall.

As there is no public transport in this area, a vehicle is essential. The village, which provides most needs, is under 4 minutes drive away. Then, through to the other side of the National Park for 10 minutes, you will find Ferny Grove which provides rail transport in to the city of Brisbane.

There is no public transport nearby, and so, it is necessary to have a car to get to Samford village and its facilities.

Whilst the suite does not have a washing machine or dryer inside, we are happy to wash a basket of clothing for you, and there is a clothesline easily accessible. (We know how hard it can be to get laundry done when you're travelling!) There is also a laundromat in the village.

Please note, we have a friendly border collie dog and gentle giant German Shepherd, who will usually meet and greet you, but then leave you in peace. They are kept inside in the main house at night.

We have beehives which provide all of our delicious honey; these are a long way off from the cottage, and you would need to walk to the bottom of the property to find them. But best not to go to within a couple of metres of the hives themselves. You may see bees in the flower gardens going about their business, but they are not aggressive unless under threat.

The location is perfect! Cockatoo Cottage is located in a bird sanctuary and we saw several types of birds throughout the day - cockatoos, parakeets, and others . If you love nature you'll love staying at this place. Nette and Andrew are great hosts who made us feel like we are family. Nette provided yummy homemade jams, butters, honey for our breakfast. The area around the cottage is beautifully landscaped with shady trees, beautiful flowers in the garden and even an open fire pit to have barbeques at. We only wish we had stayed longer and hope to return here again.

Nette went the extra mile to make us feel very welcome. Beautiful surroundings, nestled in the foothills of Mt Nebo and Mt Glorious. Lots of walks and within 5 minutes drive to lovely Samford Village which has very nice cafes and quaint shops. Our three day stay in October was great and my husband and I will definitely stay at Cockatoo Cottage again. Lyn & Bill Roe

We do live in a little pocket of paradise, and would like to share it with others.

We love travel ourselves, but always appreciate coming home to this beautiful area.
