The Nest is open until the end of June, and we will assess on a month-by-month basis, as we do our part to help contain the spread of COVID-19.

After each guest, we have always wiped down doorknobs and surfaces with disinfectant, thoroughly cleaned the unit using disinfectant, and washed all sheets/pillowcases, towels, bedspreads, mattress pads, blankets. We will continue to do that, as well as leave The Nest vacant at least 4 days between guests.

Le logement
Located in a small, friendly community just 7 mi from Cornell & downtown Ithaca, The Nest is a 1,200 sq-foot, 1-bedroom, ground-floor apartment ideal for 2, but can accommodate up to 5, but no pets. Bright and comfortable, and you'll love the completely new kitchen and bath w/ huge shower! New 50" TV, cable, internet, high-end appliances, parking included. We're located on a limited bus route but it's also a quick and direct 10-min drive to Ithaca and Cornell, and a 20-min drive to Greek Peak.

This is the entire ground-floor apartment in a early-1900s house, solar-powered by Renovus Community Solar. The bedroom has a full-twin bunk bed, and adjacent bathroom with beautiful 48"-square tiled shower with built-in granite bench. Grab bars in shower and by toilet. There's also a queen futon couch in the living room that can accommodate up to 2 additional guests, and a futon on the three-season porch as well. The kitchen includes new dishwasher, side-by-side refrigerator, KitchenAid oven (new in Fall 2017), high-efficiency Electrolux washer and dryer (new in 2018). A 50" smart TV (new in Spring 2016) with cable and internet is in the living room. The house sits on a one-acre lot with a large back yard and picnic table. There is an open front porch, and an enclosed (not insulated) back porch with a table and chairs for breakfasts or dinners on pleasant days, and futon couch. We make available and encourage both recycling and composting. The apartment has been kept animal-free since at least 1960 (when the previous owners moved in). The realistic-looking cat in the photo above is actually a stuffed toy!

Accès des voyageurs
Guests may use the entire ground floor apartment, front foyer, front porch, back porch, and yard, and access the house through either the front door (shared foyer with upstairs apartment) or the back door (private entrance). There are two different keys to enter the apartment. The first gives you access to the foyer, the second gives access to the downstairs apartment.

Autres remarques
Coffee, tea, bread, butter, eggs, and milk, are provided for a make-your-own breakfast. Other foods may also be provided, and there is a rice cooker. There are jigsaw puzzles to do, books and cookbooks, and games, too. Note that the cute cat on the bed in the photo is a stuffed toy! We respect guests with pet allergies, so NO pets are allowed in this apartment. The stuffed cat is provided as entertainment for our younger guests. Out of respect for guests with cologne sensitivities, we request that you minimize cologne and perfume use.

Diane is married to Chris, a lifelong resident of Ithaca, New York. Diane has lived here since 1987. We both enjoy birds and birding, but Chris is the expert in this field, relying especially on his knowledge of birds calls and songs to find and identify birds. We both work at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology where Diane is a design director, and Chris works for the Bioacoustics Research Program, building and deploying autonomous underwater recording units. We like indoor cats, craft beers, good wine, birding, and playing dominos. As hosts, we love the Finger Lakes and are happy to help you find good restaurants and interesting and fun things to do while you are here. We'll give you your space, but we will also be available if you have questions or need assistance. As guests, we will enjoy meeting you and learning about the places and things to do that only locals know about. We especially like natural areas, local restaurants that specialize in regional food, and stores that feature local and handmade items.

Pendant votre séjour
We are available to help you as needed, but will also give you your space. We live nearby, so please let us know if you have questions. We are happy to provide suggestions on places to eat, things to do, or natural areas to see. Both Chris and Diane are interested in birds and birding, and depending on the season, Chris can be available to give information about local birding hotspots or take you birding (this will need to be arranged prior to your visit, as Chris's job sometimes takes him out of town.)
