Drewhouse (The Pods) is a uniquely designed beach house providing luxury while still being close to nature. Set on an acre of pristine native forest in the Sunrise at 1770 estate near Agnes Water, the Pods were designed by Simon Laws of Anthill Constructions .

The house was recently featured on Dreambuild (ABC1) as Beach Shack and also appeared in the September 2012 issue of Vogue Living and more recently on channel 10's The Living Room. To see the Dreambuild episode, 'youtube pods 1770'

The Sunrise resort has two horizon pools overlooking the ocean, 4 tennis courts, poolside barbecue kitchens and playground just for residents and guests. It is an ecologically sensitive, award winning, gated community, Sunrise's rules on domestic animals means that we cannot accept pets (no matter how small). On the other hand, if you like native animals, then you'll be pleasantly surprised by their number and diversity.

Mature Bloodwoods and Cabbage Palms create a natural garden near the ocean and the famous Springs beach, near Agnes Water, the most northerly surf break on the east Australian coast. You can relax around one of the three pools overlooking the ocean, surf or fish or walk the 4 kilometers of beautiful beaches,

Living, sleeping pods and luxury bath house are separated for privacy and quiet but connected by a wooden covered walkway. The wonderful bush land setting and mild sub-tropical climate is full of birds and wildlife, including black cockatoos and grey kangaroos. Rainwater tanks, solar hot water and electricity make this passive energy efficient design a low environmental impact.

The house provides the perfect base from which to walk to the many secluded beaches to which Sunrise has private access. Drive on the private internal roads to one of the beach clubs where you'll find beautiful suspended 25M pools, free tennis and volleyball courts, modern amenities and luxury BBQ huts with solid dining settings and magnificent ocean views.

Life at The Pods centres around the main living pod with its expansive covered wooden deck and circular marble dining table. Move seamlessly through wide doorways from the modern kitchen with 5 burner gas stove, fridge with ice maker, espresso machine, water cooler and quiet dishwasher to outside dining on the shady deck. At the other end of the living pod is the entertainment area. Relax on the generous built in sofas, watch TV or streamed movies, listen to music or play board games. The sofas are also perfect for an afternoon nap or as a bed for an extra guest or two.

The beautiful bathroom pod features walls and floor of Italian travertine with a wall that opens so you can lie in the bath and look at the trees. The deep bath and art glass door that opens in or out allows you to shower inside or 'outdoors'.

The two bedroom pods hold three single beds each with the easy conversion into king sized beds from two singles. Linen is provided for both single and king sized beds. The floors are of polished native timber and the insect screened windows slide to open an entire wall width to the forest outside. Linen, towels, doonas and bed throws are provided.

The entire house is at your disposal and it is all yours - you don't share it with anyone else. You also get access to all Sunrise at 1770 facilities including walking tracks, swimming pools, BBQ pavilions and tennis courts.

General: The house has been designed for maximum energy & water efficiency. The drinking and washing water is collected rainwater and the water from garden taps is locally recycled estate grey water. Please do not waste water. These closed systems are delicate so don't place rubbish etc or bleach products in the toilets or any plumbing fixture. Solar hot water & electricity panels have also been installed. Please NO SMOKING inside the house or on the deck. Please note also that no open fires are allowed anywhere within the Sunrise estate.

Arrival Check in time is after 3PM but if you arrive earlier you are welcome to enjoy Sunrise facilities until The Pods become available.

Turn gas to ON at bottle in car park. Electricity should always remain on at the mains (for excess solar power to export to the grid) but switches in fuse box in the cupboard outside the bathroom may be off. Fridge and other appliances may need to be turned on at wall. Please do not turn on solar hot water booster (also in cupboard switchboard outside bathroom) unless required - and please turn off again once not required

BBQ: Place Weber BBQ outside the laundry and plug in to gas fitting on the deck with the gas hose provided. To light the Weber, turn both gas knobs on full with the lid closed and press the starter button on the left. Everything cooks best with the lid closed.

Noise: We understand that visitors may want to celebrate, but please take into consideration our neighbour and especially others at the beach clubs and keep noise levels low especially after 10pm.

Ventilation and insects: This house capitalizes on a benevolent climate. Fans, windows and screens may be adjusted for comfort. NOTE: Keep the bedroom pods screens closed by day to keep them cool and insect (goanna and bush rat etc.) free at night as well . If insects are a problem use an electric repellent (units & refills in the pantry which can be plugged in where required). Please only use mosquito coils on a fireproof surface. Do not place them directly on the deck.

Deck: There are cushions for use on the deck or on the stools.

Television: The HD LCD TV is controlled with the remote on the shelf. All digital Channels can be selected and the volume adjusted by pressing the central arrows up or down. The TV sound can be played through the stereo simply by turning stereo on and setting input channel to AUX. DVDS (including blue rays) can be played on the Stereo too. Set TV input to AV1. Set to antenna for TV reception. See also detailed instructions.

Please DO NOT adjust any of the television or DVD connections or leads. SB & HDMI connections are on the left hand side of the screen and can connect to cameras, games and USB sticks. Both the TV & DVD manuals are in the drawer below the DVD player.

Music: There is an IPOD dock and CD player. Just insert your iphone or ipod onto the docking station at the top and press play on your ipod. Please see instruction manuals for details.

Kitchen: The gas stove is controlled by turning the knobs while pressing in to ignite. The oven is electric. Generally use the centre oven shelf for best results. The dishwasher is located behind the left hand draw under the sink. Large plates fit on the right hand side. Select the cycle, normal is best, inside the draw and then press the middle start button once the draw is shut. Please don't use scouring pads on the stainless steel cupboards or counters, a sponge & detergent will work best. Please don't chop or use abrasives on the wood and stone tables.

Rubbish: The 3 bins in the drawer below the sink are to separate recycling and other types of rubbish. They can be lined with supermarket or rubbish bags. Please place rubbish in the appropriate recycling or general refuse council bin and leave out on the kerb Sunday evening for pickup early Monday morning. The recycling bin is picked up every second week. It should be clear from what other residents are doing when recycling Monday is – but if not you can always call Greg the site manager.

Washing Detergent is often provided on the laundry shelf. Put detergent in the middle drawer compartment, select the cycle and pull the knob out.
Cleaning We ask that you leave the house in a reasonably clean condition with no dirty dishes and tables etc., and leave the sheets on the beds and towels in the bathrooms or if you prefer in the laundry area.

Departure: Check out is 11am. Please close all the doors and leave the key with Greg, the estate manager (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) or in the electrical box behind the shed.

We love good design and it was a pleasure to be in the beautiful grasstree bush of 1770 framed by the beautiful lines and curves of Drewhouse. Derek was prompt and responsive to my initial enquiries despite being in France himself. Whilst we didn't get the opportunity to meet Derek, the Drewhouse was fully prepared and we were welcomed by Greg, the Sunrise 1770 Estate manager who explained everything we needed to know. We travelled with family friends and our daughter and the separate sleeping pavillions were perfect for our needs. As this is the family's own holiday retreat and not a business, all the touches of home were present, including a quality kitchen and a fully stocked pantry. This is important as Agnes Water/ 1770 isn't where you go for culinary excellence and the best meals will always be served from your own kitchen. I was initially hesitant about booking in a 'development' but Sunrise 1770 is well executed and protects its location and surrounds from rampant and hideous development. It's just moments away from the Deepwater National Park where we snorkelled with turtles and dolphins on a rock reef. The Joseph Banks Reserve is also sensational. We made use of the the beach club (there are two) with its pool and private cabanas with BBQ facilities. If you're thinking about booking, don't hesitate - just do it. We'll certainly be back!!

It was a pleasure hosting you and your group Rachel. You certainly appear to have made the most of your time at Sunrise. I understand completely your hesitation about booking in a development just as we hesitated before buying into one. But, like you, we found 'Sunrise at 1770' to be no ordinary development and it has to be seen to be believed. It has truly captured the natural beauty of that piece of coastline. Spot on too about the cooking. Best dining is at the house itself (although I've had some memorable lunches at the BBQ pavilions too).
