Two storey, rustic, limestone house nestled on 42 hectares in the heart of the best wineries, beaches, surf, caves and forest that Margaret River has to offer. Rural seclusion with a 1.1km long driveway, no TV, no traffic noise - ideal for unwinding with family and friends.
*Minimum booking 2 nights*

Le logement

A large limestone house, constructed using french glazed sash windows from the former Loretto Convent. The main room has a soaring 14m high main ceiling, commanding 3m fireplace and 4.5m dining table.

This is a private residence, located on an operational farm within a rural/bush setting. The farm is primarily a timber plantation with a small area of (trial) citrus plantings. A large population of kangaroos can be seen grazing on the lawn around the house of an evening. Splendid wrens, possums, emus, black cockatoos also abound.

Autres remarques

Summer is a Total Fire Ban in this area (a consequence of extensive bushland and the 2011 devastating bushfires). As the fireplaces are not equipped with spark arrestors, no fires are permitted between December and May.

No pets are allowed. This is both to protect the native wildlife, as well as your pet. Kangaroos are quite capable of defending themselves against dog attack (working farm dogs are trained from an early age not to chase kangaroos). 1080 poison baiting also occurs in the area from time to time.

Check-out

Please treat the house as your home away from home but please leave it the way you found it... ie dishes done and put away, bbq cleaned and used bathroom linen on bathroom floor. No need to vacuum.

Help yourself to the coffee machine, beans and grinder.

The house is on a rainwater tank so please respect water use and resources and avoid long showers and don't leave taps dripping.

A water efficient front loading washing machine is provided, but please be mindful of the tank water supply.

The sea mine (yes, of the anti-shipping kind) wood fire is best lit of an evening and will heat the entire house. There is a total fire ban in Margaret River between November and May, so strictly no fires inside or out. The sea mine is ziplocked during the total fire ban period. A gas BBQ is located on the verandah and is ok to use anytime.

The outside lights are 12v and are automated and operate on a sunset/dawn timer switch.

Strictly no smoking in the house as we are popular with families. Cigarette butts should be extinguished and placed in the bin.

The kangaroos shows up around 6-7pm each evening on the lawn to the west of the house.

Please put away any foods and snacks of an evening so the possums aren't encouraged to take them.

A large wheelie bin is provided. Please ensure any rubbish placed in this bin is first placed in a bin bag. There is no bin service to the house and I dislike having to dive into the bin to scoop out rotting organic matter!

Please refrain from changing the settings on the outdoor spa (34c is the optimal temperature). The spa may not be available during inclement weather due to maintenance requirements.

We rented out Forest Grove for my mums 70th birthday, and we all reluctantly departed on our last day relaxed and keen to book again next year. The house seems to manage a very special balance of massive but cozy, rustic but completely functional, isolated but close enough to everything, and the design works really well with a large group of people. Place this unique house in its spectacular surroundings and a great location and you have all the ingredients for a brilliant holiday. All bedding and towels were provided and were spotlessly clean, and the beds comfortable. Heaps of easy parking for multiple vehicles. We loved the 4 big comfy sofas for hanging out in, playing games, snoozing, chatting the night away (you get the idea). And the same can be said of the wide verandahs where we spent much time watching blue wrens, the milk way and catching up on naps. The 'sea mine' warmed the place so well that we we mostly walking around in t-shirts inside. Geoff was also a great host providing clear and extensive instructions, and also responded to my many queries quickly. I read an earlier review and would like to take time to add to the comments. We found the house to be rustic but neat and fully functional. The lounges were not brand spanking new, but of good quality, clean and comfortable. We came across no extreme 'bug life' - just the occasional fly and a few of those pesky (and completely harmless) millipedes - nothing more than you would expect when surrounded by beautiful native bush. On the flip side, there was also fantastic bird life, kangaroos and possums almost at the back door. The kitchen was clean, well equipped and we had no issue with any remaining food product. Nestled down near the creek, an easy walk from the house, we found the spa. Yes, the water was a little tannin-y when we first arrived (because the property uses tank water) - but we turned on the pump and 6 hours later it was crystal clear and deliciously warm. If you want a contempory, clinically pristine house then I would suggest that you look for that type of property. However, if you want an authentic Margaret River experience, in a gorgeous and unique house on a truly stunning property, then this is the place for you - except when we want to re-book it, of course :-).

'Chateau de la Forest Grove' From the secluded drive way that twists and turns through the beautiful Australian countryside to the rustic abode that references a modest French chateau, this airbnb exceeded my expectations on all counts. Highlights include the hidden hot tub, spacious rooms, a balcony that provides endless views of the abundant countryside and the outside timber table that allows one to enjoy a morning coffee and/or candlelit dinner amongst the marri trees. Would highly recommend anyone looking to escape to the countryside.

There are so few homes that can cater for a large group. With 4 couples we still had a spare room. The phone network and internet is sketchy and there is no TV, but this was a bonus. The outdoor spa is fantastic. It does exist. Look near the creek.

This charismatic house was perfect for a multi-family group with a huge living area with enormous high ceilings and several bedrooms of different sizes. It's very secluded, down a 1km track and there are no other properties as far as the eye can see. The kitchen is compact but well equipped although the oven wasn't working when we stayed; we adapted by using the barbecue so it want a big issue. Taps are supplied with rain water but the host supplied ample bottled drinking water. Heating was provided by a wood-burning WW2 sea mine which worked really well. Mobile signals are patchy and there is no wifi so be aware of this if you think you can't live without it. We loved the enforced digital detox.

This rustic, secluded house is located in a scenic property in Margaret river. A massive house for 10 people. I love the lounge area. We had a very relaxing holiday. However, I should mention all the bad points as well. We pay $150 extra for cleaning. However, when we checked-in house cleaning was very unacceptable. It is very dusty, furniture, bed linen, even towels in some of the rooms were very dusty. Carpet and the house had not been vacuumed. We found two live scorpions on the sofa in two different times. There were heaps of dead flies in the kitchen. There were some animal faces on the floor in two rooms. Millions of millipedes were everywhere (thats okay as the owner can not stop them; however, if the house is sealed the owner can get rid of them). I had to do basic cleaning before I took my kids in. I felt embarrassed in front of other guest as I organised the vacation. furniture are very outdated (except the dining table and some of the beds). Out door spa was full of rubbish, was not able to use at all. I tired to clean the spa and refilled with clean water but all effort in vain. There were lots of expired food in the kitchen cupboard. Fridge is full of expired food. Freezer is very smelly.... etc. I can not retrieve everything but basically cleaning and maintenance was very poor. Two of my family members actually get sick for the dust. There are lot to improve. If the house owner can improve the house condition and make it more habitable, this place will be one of the best holiday accomodation in Margaret River.
