The Casita is a super relaxing spot. Perfect for two, four at a squeeze, you'll enjoy a record player and vinyl, some games and interesting books. You'll also have access to our pool, hot tub and outdoor grills! Please read the full description, it's a little different :)
This is a beautiful simple little home. Record player, books and games instead of a TV, wonderful airflow, electric heaters and fans instead of AC and heating, a composting toilet (we'll give you full instructions, it is very straightforward), full kitchen with a crockpot, rice cooker and vintage juicer, but no microwave.
It's an open plan space, the main room has a queen bed, plenty of storage, and a super comfy futon couch that converts into another queen bed. It's a combined bed/living room. Down a few steps you come to the kitchen/dining area and a separate bathroom with a composting toilet (be aware it does not have liners).
Accès des voyageurs
The Casita is separate from the main house, it has its own entrance and little private yard (with table and chairs). Guests will also have full access (shared with us and other guests) to our pool, hot tub, outdoor shower, charcoal smoker, grill, and fire ring with optional cooking spit. Ask if you need to do laundry and we'll give you access to facilities in the main house. You are also very welcome to explore the wild bit of the property that goes down to the wash, it's usually dry but is a river after much needed rain.
Échanges avec les voyageurs
We will leave you entirely to your own devices if you want, but you're welcome to hang out with us by the pool, or anywhere else if we're around :) We have two lovely cats who are big fans of the Casita, they are likely to come in if doors are left open. If so, just make sure they aren't inside when leaving the Casita.
We've created this space for relaxation, it doesn't have the conveniences many expect, but it has a lot more! A couple of things to be aware of before you book - there is no AC or heating and summer days are HOT (we recommend cooling down in the pool, but there are also a number of fans in the Casita) and winter nights are cold (there are electric heaters though, and we can provide extra blankets).
The property is across a small valley from two train lines and a freeway. There are also some noisy neighbourhood dogs. This means the Casita is not silent. Although most of the time it'll be birdsong you'll hear, some nights there can be frequent and loud trains. The Casita is filled with light, which is lovely but could be less lovely if you're disturbed by light in the mornings. I'll leave you eye masks and ear plugs.
The Casita is very much in Southern California, we try to keep ants and other insects at bay but some are likely to show up.
The pool and hot tub area is clothing optional. Let us know if you're not comfortable with this.
Relax, enjoy, be respectful and kind.
Hi! I moved to Riverside from England a couple of years ago with my husband Carlo, who is Italian. He is here doing a PhD in Philosophy, I'm a bit of an academic too as well as an educator but now spend much of my time making pots :) We love our home here and look forward to welcoming guests to share it with us and the two lovely cats who came with the house :)
