Big Ruby—formerly known as Slo-Mo—is a 32-foot Sundowner Tug.
She has a galley (kitchen/living area), a pilot house, a berth (sleeping nook) and a head (small bathroom). There are also lots of places on the deck to relax and soak in the sun...when it's around.
Aboard Big Ruby you’ll find everything you need and want, and nothing you don’t. Everything we use on board is as eco-friendly and low-waste as possible. You’ll find writing and creative supplies, a stocked kitchen, a comfy sleeping nook, a nice 'lil boat bathroom, and lots of thoughtful touches throughout.
Big Ruby has a full (boat-sized) kitchen, a mini-fridge, and a propane oven with a 3-burner stovetop. We have a toaster, an electric hot water heater, microwave, french press, nice coffee grinder and more. You’ll find all the basic tools, serving ware, and utensils you’ll need to cook a good meal, and to entertain a couple of guests. Big Ruby is also equipped with some basic food staples, spices, condiments, good salt, and sharp knives.
Perhaps most importantly, Big Ruby is ALWAYS stocked with excellent coffee, tea, sugar and organic half and half. We take good coffee and your creative productivity very seriously!
Big Ruby has wifi, and the galley has a Sony stereo/receiver with Bluetooth capabilities — which not only means you can sync your devices and play music, but you can also use the stereo for enhanced audio while watching streaming movies and shows on your devices in the galley, should you choose that entertainment route.
The pilot house is where you’ll find the steering wheel and the navigational equipment, but it’s also a great place to write, read, or work on a project. To that end, you’ll find a comfy spot for reading or napping, as well as a perfect spot for standing and working on your laptop. There are writing supplies, creative supplies, a little library, and a few little touches that will hopefully inspire and delight you.
The berth is equipped with a memory foam mattress topper, crisp organic cotton sheets, cotton blankets and a down comforter that is affectionately nicknamed “the cloud.” You’ll also find warm lighting, handy electrical outlets, shelving, hooks, alarm clock, and other amenities.
One disclaimer: if you are really tall or large, Big Ruby might not be your jam. Especially if you’re part of a tall couple, the berth might not be as comfortable for you as it is for us shorter folks. That said, we’ve got tall friends, and they’ve dealt—we just want everyone to have accurate expectations, is all! (You can also use the longer convertible bed in the galley, if need be.)
Our little bathroom has an electric flush toilet (and there's another bathroom available on land.) You'll find a small handheld shower, lots of hot water, and some thoughtful touches. The head is stocked with eco-friendly amenities and personal products, and organic cotton towels and washcloths.
We'll also provide you with our handy dandy Big Ruby guide, which includes details about staying on board, tips for exploring Seattle and information about the area neighboring the marina.
The Danes have a word, hygge (“hyoo-guh”), that roughly, inadequately, translates to “cozy” in English. But hygge is more like ultra cozy, and what Scandanavians use to thwart the dreariness of dark, cold winters. When we’re not enjoying perfect, sunny, humidity-free 78-degree summers, Seattle is a place to get seriously cozy, and your Norwegian/Swedish hosts are happy to share the hygge with you.
