À propos de ce logement

A freshly re-modelled and redecorated room with blackout curtains and mood lighting. The sofa-bed is memory foam and very comfortable. The room is on the ground floor where there is a separate loo. Very cosy space. Oh... and the piano is there too!
You have full use of the kitchen facilities and the conservatory from which you can enjoy the garden, chill out, eat or work at the table (instead of the kitchen table) between 9am-10.30pm each day.

Description

A freshly re-modelled and redecorated room with blackout curtains and mood lighting. The sofa-bed is memory foam and very comfortable. The room is on the ground floor where there is a separate loo. Very cosy space. Oh... and the piano is there too!
You have full use of the kitchen facilities and the conservatory from which you can enjoy the garden, chill out, eat or work at the table (instead of the kitchen table) between 9am-10.30pm each day.

The house is set back from the road so there is room to park off the road on the driveway, in front of the bay window.
This room used to be the dining room, but is now known as the "Piano Room"... as it has the piano in it. The room is designed to be a chill-out area with a sound-insulated ceiling so that the lodger who resides above is not intruding the space below with noise. The sound-proofing is not perfect, but it helps!
If you wanted to use the space during the day for chilling out in, then you could put the bed away and use the sofa as the sofa. In both formats, the bed AND the sofa are very comfortable.
You have use of the conservatory as well, between the hours of 9am-10.30pm which has settees to sit on and a dining table at which you can choose to eat or work if you desire. Just leave the room as you find it when you leave!
The curtains in the Piano Room are lined with blackout material so that you won't be disturbed by the rising sun that would otherwise pour into the room at dawn.

You're welcome to use the kitchen on the understanding that you will "leave no evidence" that you have done so when you leave it. There is a dedicated Guest Corner with a small amount of dry food storage space for you and a large shelf dedicated for your use in a 'fridge larder' (1.8m tall fridge with no freezer compartment). There is a small area of the freezer available in the main fridge if you'd like to freeze a ready-meal (for example).

You can enjoy the garden too if that's your thing. There are a few benches and a picnic table in a quiet sun-trap at the very bottom of the garden.

I'd be more than happy to help with any local info and will most likely be resident most of the time. If you want to be solitary, that's cool, but if you fancy sharing a bottle of wine and shoot the breeze, that's great too!

I am literally 5 minutes walk from Hatfield's indoor swimming pool, the University of Hertfordshire, and 1 mile from Hatfield train and bus Station, the magnificent Jacobean Hatfield House (where Queen Elizabeth the 1st was told she was the new queen), and the picturesque Old Hatfield with it's characterful pubs.
Asda, CoOp and Aldi are all within 8 minutes walk for food shopping and the Galleria Mall with it's outlet shopping, many diverse restaurants and multi-screen Odeon cinema complex is even nearer.

The house is situated just off the A1(M) so is really well connected to the M25, the M1, Luton airport (25 mins drive), Stansted airport (40 mins drive) and Heathrow (45 mins drive) with good bus links to all 3 airports.
St Albans is only 5 miles to the west and there are frequent busses going there. There is also the Alban Way, a cycle path down the former railway line that takes a wonderful country route to St Albans. So if you enjoy walking or have bicycles, that's a great afternoon trek to undertake; go and see the magnificent cathedral there or the Saturday markets. If you're not so ambitious with the distance, then the Plough pub is a manageable walk, as a lunch-time destination perhaps, along the Alban Way and across a ploughed field.
Otherwise, the trains go north to Edinburgh up the east coast via Peterborough, east to Cambridge via Royston and south to London Kings Cross which on the fast train takes 23 minutes, via Finsbury Park to connect with the Victoria and Piccadilly lines of the London Underground. Please note that Oyster Card usage doesn't extend beyond Finsbury Park out of Kings Cross; you need to have an overground ticket to get to Hatfield.
I'll be sending you a map with loads of this sort of information on it before you arrive, to help you plan.

There is a simple key system in place that means you can come and go as you please without having to wait for me.

I have 2 rooms advertised on Airbnb. But on occasions I have other returning guests who stay over in other rooms. They are professionals who are just staying over to sleep and so generally don't use the kitchen. And as mentioned above, I have a permanent lodger.

There is a downstairs loo too, so there should never be a need to cross your legs!

Règlement intérieur

Showering is the preferred method of washing as taking a bath literally empties the whole tank of hot water! Not a popular move with the other occupants. But if you really wanted a bath, just let me know and I'll start the boiler to reheat the water.
My permanent lodger has bathroom priority every day between 0600 and 0630 as he has a tight schedule in the morning. So please do not use the bathroom between these times. (There's a separate loo, so relax!) And please lower the lid of the loo after using it! Hehe; a tough one for the guys to adhere to, I know!
Please only smoke outside and dispose of the butts in the brown wheelie bin.
I can't accept pets I'm afraid.
On rainy days, avoid wet shoes and clothing on the parquet flooring as it marks instantly with water!
If using the kitchen, just ensure you leave no evidence of having done so ;-) and there's definitely some fridge space for you for a couple of items if you wish.
Please do not put anything other than music on the piano, especially not glasses of liquid!
If you'd like to play the piano, just bear in mind who else is in the house. My lodger and I are both musicians so we enjoy a good rendition, although maybe not at midnight!

I love making things happen, especially if it's offbeat and fun. And there is a sense of 'theatre' about that statement having spend most of my career formerly in scenic prop-making for West End London shows (Phantom of the Opera being the most famous show I worked on) and latterly in developing memorable fun team building experiences for the Corporate Event industry. So creativity is very important to me.
Connecting people is also a passion as you never know what spark might happen as a result. So to that end, I really enjoy entertaining, getting to understand what excites people and seeing how that passion can be harnessed. When it works, that's cause for celebration.
I am a huge fan of Beethoven's piano sonatas and relentlessly try to perfect a couple of them on my piano, but I think it must be very tedious for a regular listener hearing the same old pieces trotted out; but I love it. I find it a way of switching off to the day's activities.
The garden is a constant source of recreation, although my favourite statement is that "...shrubs, land fabric and paving slabs make it easy!" But it's still amazing how much time I spend titivating it. I'm sure I'm in denial of the time I actually spend in it. And should you come to stay as my guest, I hope you'll appreciate a rather large surprise there :-)
I'm sure if someone else were to write this piece they would say something completely different! But to sum up, I specifically chose the word FUN to be the three letters on my car's numberplate, as life is too short to be dull! After 4 years of living with it, it still makes me smile when I approach the car.
