Our little house is located in Old West Durham, a funky diverse neighborhood north of Duke. You can walk or bike most anywhere interesting from here! The vibe is sort of bohemian, with a free porch library out front :)

Le logement

Your bedroom has a beautiful canopy bed with a buckwheat hull mattress (very comfortable and all-natural), a little meditation area, and windows looking onto the backyard. You have full use of our big kitchen and the bathroom, as well as a large backyard with a creek running through it. Your choice of front yard or back yard hammocks to chill out in!

Accès des voyageurs

Your room, bathroom, kitchen, front porch library (neighbors may stop by to take or leave a book!), back yard.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

I'm generally going to stay out of your way, but feel free to chat me up if you're an outgoing person!

Autres remarques

There is a big fluffy kitty and a little black-and-white bunny (both available for scritches at your discretion), so if you have severe allergies, you may be uncomfortable. You are certainly welcome to close the pets out of the bedroom if you'd rather not interact with them.

This was my first AirBnB experience... the home was quite walkable to Duke University's campus and to 9th Street shopping. For longer commuting, a bike was made available, which was a nice touch. The room itself was clean and inviting, full of light and color, and the buckwheat mattress was really comfortable once you sort of snuggled into it. There are two house animals (cat and bunny) who made appearances but stayed out of the room itself. Bathroom is pretty cozy, good water pressure, and nicely decorated - I found myself noticing new artworks each day. The "welcome note" invitation to enjoy homemade kombucha in the fridge and recommendations of places to go in town were also appreciated. I enjoyed talking with Rachel about her permacultural ambitions when we met early in the stay. After that, we rarely crossed paths, the house is quiet (as is the neighborhood) and you can have reign of the place. I would recommend it to anyone who appreciates sustainable living (there are many books on the topic available for reading), especially anyone who is in town visiting Duke as it is so close to campus and therefore makes getting back and forth easy.

This room was exactly what was described. I certainly felt like I was in a hippie hideaway complete with buckwheat mattress, windchimes, and lavender scents. The cat and rabbit roam the house freely and the cat sleeps on the bed when there aren't guests around (that is where the two of us first met when I walked in the door), so if you have any allergies to either then do not rent here. The house is certainly lived in but it was tidy enough for me. It was very close to 9th street which has a lot of bars, cafes, and small restaurants as well as Duke university medical center. Positives: Close to desirable locations, affordable price, very nice host willing to offer suggestions on places around town and coffee in the morning. Negatives: Not as clean an I would have hoped.

We needed a place to stay in Durham for the night, and we wanted to be walkable to things so this looked like a good spot. About the home: It is definitely a hippie hideaway and I appreciate that everything was natural and earth friendly :). There is ample space and a yard. Pros: Location is great just a few blocks from all of restaurants on 9th street, and we even walked to the center of downtown pretty easily. The Cons: cleanliness. If I am renting something (even if its on the low end of price) I would it to be cleaner--particularly not share my sleeping space with the rabbits bathroom area

Friendly dork of a gal, living in town while my husband and I save up for our permaculture homestead dreams. Talk to me about intentional community, raising goats, meditation, cooking, or the human condition. I'm also a big fan of companionable silences :)
