À propos de ce logement

Quiet redwood getaway between Eureka and Arcata. Charming 500 sq. ft. barn loft with private deck, surrounded by tall trees, birds and woodland creatures. Short drive to towns, beaches, rivers and hiking. Small market and farm stands nearby.

Le logement

Located near the end of a canyon road in the redwoods. Remodeled barn loft with custom, unique touches. Shared driveway and yard separate the loft from main house where we live and work.

The loft is ideal for single travelers or couples who do not smoke tobacco.

The full kitchen includes gas range, toaster, and microwave, and is stocked with eggs, tea, locally roasted coffee, local grass-fed butter, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and, when available, seasonal veggies from the organic garden and orchard.

The bedroom features both an attached solarium, and a private deck above a year-round creek. The Queen bed frame was made onsite with reclaimed ancient redwood.

The en suite bathroom includes soap, shampoo, clean towels, and features a secluded glass shower that brings the rain forest into the bathroom.

A small library includes regional guides to help plan day trips and identify birds, mushrooms and other wildlife.

An outdoor fireplace on the entry deck is perfect for cozy evenings under the stars.

Conveniently located a short drive to beaches, rivers, Headwaters Forest Preserve, Old Town Eureka, the Arcata Plaza, and Humboldt State University. Perfect for nature lovers, but just 5 minutes off highway 101, which winds along the edge of Humboldt Bay.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome.

Be aware: The private road becomes one lane for the last few hundred feet and can sometimes require backing up or pulling over to accommodate oncoming vehicles.

Two senior dachshunds live in the main house. One is very friendly and one is a rescue who is a bit standoffish.

We love our little spot in the forest and think you will, too!

Accès des voyageurs

Guests have the loft to themselves, and are welcome in our small yard. Garden spaces with lettuce and other greens available for the picking by spring. Quiet drive along redwood-lined creek nice for walking, jogging and blackberry picking in late summer.

A steep, short hillside trail leading away from the loft offers nice views of the surrounding forest.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

We will greet you upon arrival and give you the keys. Your hosts are longtime Humboldt County residents, and we live and work in the main house that shares the driveway and yard with the loft. We are avid gardeners and like to BBQ so spend a lot of time outside during the day. We can tell you where to hike, eat, kayak and enjoy this beautiful area, but are otherwise happy to let you enjoy your privacy during your stay.

AMAZING!!! If you've ever had the desire to go camping, but want ALL the comforts of home, this is the place for you! Jen & Howard have created a wonderful experience to live in the "woods" by building a well maintained "aloft in the woods". Everything you need is provided (great touch with the local coffee) and the place is kept in exceptional condition. The shower is a one-of-a-kind experience because you are practically one with nature!!! There's even a creek running right outside the bedroom balcony. Perfect for a getaway to Eureka (town center is only 15 minutes away) and the Humboldt area. Also, Jen & Howard are extremely kind and friendly! We even joined them for a nice chat by the firepit and they shared lots of great life experiences and history about the area! Thanks so much for the "glamping" experience and hope to be back one day!

Jen and Howard are such wonderful people and incredible hosts! We absolutely loved staying here! The space was so beautiful and well designed and the location could not have been more stunning tucked in the woods. We were so happy we got to stay an extra night and hope to be back again in the future. Couldn't recommend staying here more! :)

A charming, quiet getaway tucked in amongst the trees, it feels like the shire with redwoods. The loft is CLEAN - normally a wooded cabin means it is buggy (not this one!). The bedroom is surprisingly large and has a writing desk which is appreciated. Wi-Fi signal is strong and there are shelves of books to choose from if you'd rather unplug. You definitely want to check with Jen and Howard for local recommendations, ranging from local cuisine (Renata's Creperie!!!) to area parks to local events. Their place is exceptionally well located; between Arcata and Eureka, a few minutes from 101 and most of the area's major parks are within an hour's drive to the north & south. I give it full marks all around. Only wish it would sleep 4 so I could come back with the family!

Jen and Howard's place was honestly one of the best places I've ever stayed. They were so wonderful and so easy to get a hold of. We had zero issues while we stayed. The directions were clear, the loft was clean and well supplied with kitchen utensils. They were so accommodating with our dog. The location itself is so secluded and beautiful. You are surrounded by forest. It feels like camping but with the luxuries of a hot shower, a comfy bed, and of course a kitchen. I could honestly go on and on about how wonderful it was :) I definitely recommend!

Absolutely loved this place. It was so charming and magical. The house was perfect. We spent 2 nights here on our honeymoon and couldn't have picked a better spot. Jen and Howard were great hosts and gave a lot of great traveling and and exploring suggestions. We hope to return to this special spot one day.

We felt so at home in Jen and Howard's beautiful loft: we stayed with them on our previous trip to the area and even though it had been over a year they greeted us warmly. The area is just remote enough that you are lost in the majesty of the land and taken by the personality of the loft itself. We would definitely recommend this loft over many other types of accommodation available in the area.

Profil utilisateur de Jen & HowardJen & Howard est un Superhost.

Jen likes to grow vegetables, cook and eat local foods, walk in the woods, go on road trips, and breathe the coastal fog. She catalogs books for an antiquarian book dealer, which requires her to read, weigh, sniff, and measure interesting tomes for readers and collectors around the world.

Howard has learned the value of wearing several hats in his 25 years in the rain forest. A builder and woodworker by trade, he integrates landscaping and gardening to round out the seasons. His favorite pastimes are hiking, and kayaking the bay, lagoons and all of our six rivers. If you want a guide to some of Humboldt's special places, he's a good guy to know.
