The apartment is run not by the owner of the apartment, but by a company that rents apartments in Rome. We were contacted by a lady who worked for that company who gave us the keys. I am not sure if such apartments should be rented via RBN, as the way I see the RBN philosophy is that it should have a more personal approach. Although I had e-mailed that we would like to leave as late as possible (evening flight), I received the “flexible departure hour” , which I thought meant that they would be flexible. But upon arrival, I was informed that we had to leave by 10 in the morning, as the flat was rented again. So we had to find another place (we rented another hotel room in the center), to leave luggage and rest for a couple of hours in the afternoon, as it would be too tiring for the kids to be all day in the streets.
Location: great location, just a couple of steps from all main monuments. It is extremely difficult to be approached by car (although the GPS shows the way), as the streets are really narrow, full of touristic shops and tourists walking around. We drove to the appt, as we had 2 small children, plus luggage. I suppose parking is impossible, but we did not find out as we returned the car to the car rental company. We just stopped for a couple of minutes to leave the luggage and it was uncomfortable. The lady from the apartment said on the phone that it is very difficult to approach by car and even stop for a while, but was not helpful with our options… There is a supermarket near the corner, very convenient.
Access: Once you entered the building, there were narrow and strange corridors in order to reach the apartment. it was weird and a bit scary. The apartment was on the 1 floor, but the stairs were really narrow (you had to hold you bag in front of you, not on the side, in order to walk through) and streep. Very easy to fall if not really careful and had to hold kids’ hands constantly.
Safety: I was not thrilled about the feeling of safety. The main door of the building looked closed, but if you pushed it from outside it opened. The apartment door was not a safety door, but an iron / glass door that needed to be locked twice to stay closed.
Cleanness : The sheets and towels were clean, there was no dust on the floors & furniture, but there was a weird smell (maybe because it is an old building). The kitchen utensils & pans had old stains (we bought some plastic that we used). The curtains and the sofa covers felt dirty, they had not been washed for ages. Behind the curtain of the bedroom no cleaner had reached in months.
