My friend and I were on vacation for a week and decided to stay at Juan's place. From the very beginning, he was very responsive and answered my many questions. The day of arrival, he allowed us to drop off our bags since our flight arrived way before check in. He gave us information on the area and pointed out all the hot spots (restaurants, stores, and of course the beach!) He also advised us of a situation on the island that had occurred which resulted in no running water. This was something like a state of emergency as surrounding towns also didn't have water. He kept us updated on the status of the situation, even buying us drinks while we were at the beach. He was flexible if we wanted to stay somewhere else bc the water issue and very reasonable. Once we checked in, we liked the room. It is mostly as pictured. The bathroom, however, is much smaller than expected and that was a shock. The water started working late that day/early next morning. I don't think the water issue of the island is common knowledge but something to consider. We didn't really have hot water -warm at best-but considering it is so hot there, it was doable. He checked on us throughout our stay bringing us extra towels when we needed them! His son is very adorable and kind-just like his dad! He didn't rush us on the day of check out which was great because we ended up running late for our breakfast! Juan is a really great host and for that I am grateful.
The location of the room is close to everything. If you have excursions that only pick up at hotels, the nearest one is less than a two minute walk. It's less than 5 minutes from the airport-a flat taxi charge is $15 from airport (uber can't pick up from airport currently but can drop off and it was $6 on day of departure). The building is undergoing a facelift but his unit is up to date ---except the tiny bathroom-claustrophia inducing.
Lots to do in the area or you can stay on the free beach all day!!! Be sure to try local cuisines but also note there is no rushing on the island-meaning patience will be a virtue at restaurants! That's island life for you!
Thanks, Juan, for your hospitality!
