Located between Hawkshead and Ambleside, we are in a prime position for those wanting a relaxing break or an adventurous outdoor escape.
Guests can enjoy peaceful views of the English Lake District from all bedrooms.
Stay in our Grade II listed Georgian house with plenty of charm, character and history. Once part of the Beatrix Potter Estate, we rented the house from the National Trust in 2006 and have spent years renovating every room to a high standard to become our family home. It is just a 2-minute drive from the idyllic village of Hawkshead and a 10-minute drive from Ambleside.

Our Braithwaite en-suite double bedroom sleeps two with room for a put-u-up bed. Our rooms are finished to the highest standard, furnished with White Company bed linen and boasting stunning views. The en-suite bathroom has full facilities with a walk in shower. Wake up with the beautiful countryside of the English Lake District just outside your window, looking down the Esthwaite Valley over Esthwaite Water to Windermere; and then come and join us in the dining room for a continental and full English Breakfast with eggs from our own hens and Cumberland Sausage from Lake District farmers.
You also have full use of our Guest Sitting Room where you can drink tea and coffee whilst reading the daily newspaper or catching up on TV.
Food and hot drinks cannot be consumed in the bedrooms, but can be consumed in the guest sitting room and the dining room. Please be respectful for other guests at all times during your stay.
No dogs in the bedrooms, please. Guests are welcome to bring well behaved dogs (max. 2), but we ask that they sleep in the ground floor corridor where there is space for a dog cage or dog bed. Our three Labradors sleep in a separate corridor on the ground floor.
We are available to help with recommendations of activities around the Lake District.
Gillie and I fully refurbished Belmount Hall (a beautiful Grade II Listed Georgian manor house, once owned by Beatrix Potter) during 2006, and have been hosting weddings and house parties at Belmount Hall since December that year. From 1991 to 2015, we ran the Jumping Jenny Coffee House and Licensed Restaurant at Brantwood, on the east side of Coniston Water, just near Belmount, where we established an excellent reputation for the quality of the food served. Belmount Hall is our home. It has extensive grounds, also largely restored, and we are continuing works to restore the walled garden to its former glory. With six letting bedrooms, we offer exclusive use house parties (including catering for parties of up to 12 in the private dining-room, or up to 90 in our West Barn Dining Room for anniversary or birthday celebrations). Alternatively, Airbnb single guests or couples are welcome to take individual rooms, all with wonderful views, preferably for a minimum of two nights. Gillie makes incredible cakes and puddings, whilst my interest is in savoury cooking - stocks, sauces, casseroles and pies. We have always offered plenty of choice for vegetarians, vegans, coeliacs, and so on. We love:- Belmount Hall and its history, France (Airbnb in Aix en Provence, and Marseilles), opera, theatre, art, and much more. My family has lived in the Lake District for over forty years, so we can help with advice, arrange tours, and much more. Belmount is situated at the head of what could be called:- 'Beatrix Potter valley' - Hawkshead, Near Sawrey, and Far Sawrey - and is apparently the first house built specifically to take advantage of the view!
We host concerts, and can offer courses on cookery and art, on Belmount Hall and its history, and on Beatrix Potter.
