Le logement

*** Please read the addendum to the listing description below regarding the new City of Savannah Short Term Rental Ordinance and the required Sales Tax (7%) AND Hotel Occupancy Tax (6%). Updated rates now INCLUDE these taxes.

This space is designed for longer stays (minimum of 2 nights) of up to one full week or more. It is intended for low key travelers who might want avoid the tourist fray but still want the proximity of downtown.

This is the top floor of a 1914 carriage house. (It is the second story to my other listing "Carriage House - Cabin Apartment.") Another 'urban cabin,' this is a full apartment with a private bedroom and private bathroom as well as an open kitchen and living room. It has lots of light, and an outside deck looking onto the garden below.

IF YOU ARE A WRITER and are here for that purpose, I will give you a discounted weekly rate. Please inquire when you are looking to book.

The garden is expansive and very peaceful. It's situated behind a large colonial revival house (1914), and both sit on a 1/4 acre lot. There are 70 ft tall water oaks that shade the property. And open as it is, it feels very much like a private retreat.

Just a few blocks south of Forsyth Park, it is within very close walking distance of Cotton & Rye, Blowin' Smoke, Butterheads, Foxy Loxy, Elizabeth's, Local 1110, American Legion, Le Chai, Sentient Bean, Green Truck, PERC, and Brighter Day. It is also in close proximity to the Starland District (galleries, Starland Cafe, Back in the Day, and The Wormhole), and a few of SCAD's major buildings, including Arnold Hall. The main central library is 3 blocks away.

For Tybee visitors, it is a few blocks from Victory Drive, and from there it takes about 25 minutes to drive. I do have beach chairs for you to use.

This is as central as you can get south of the historic squares, less the congestion. There is a city bus line that stops on the corner, but otherwise it is 5 minutes by car from here to River Street, 15 minutes by bike (with a dedicated bike lane on opposite corner), and about half hour if you are walking.

The unit comes with the use of 2 older beach cruiser bikes, and of course you are welcome to bring your own. There will be one dedicated parking spot for you to use if you are driving.

There will be a small variety of breakfast items provided, usually including organic or locally sourced coffee, milk, juice, eggs, cereal, and some beverages.

There is a small television with cable (including HBO), and wifi is also provided for streaming movies or music on your own wireless device.

THANK YOU to my recent guests, Mike and Olivia from Chicago, for providing me with beautiful new listing photographs. The main photos in the series were taken by Mike Killion from Chicago.

*** Addendum: The City of Savannah has passed a new Short Term Rental Ordinance for any rentals less than 30 days, which goes into effect as of January 1, 2015. As part of the ordinance, I must collect sales tax of 7% and hotel occupancy tax of 6%, for a total of 13%. Because AirBnB does not have a separate line item to collect these, it's necessary for me to incorporate these into the nightly rate.

Please read the following agreement as per the City of Savannah Short Term Vacation Rental Ordinance. In booking you agree to and provide a de facto signature to the following:

EXEMPLAR AGREEMENT:

As part of the application, property owners must submit a copy of an exemplar agreement which is executed between the property owner and occupant(s).

Séjour très agréable dans une ambiance cosy: on se sent bien chez Richard ! Notre hôte s'est montré très disponible et communicant: une excellente expérience. Merci à lui. We have very much enjoyed our stay at Carriage House. You immediately feel comfortable, like at home. Richard has been extremely supportive and helpful. Overall, a very great experience that we highly recommend.

Richard's place is wonderful. Upon walking in, I immediately felt comfortable/at home-- not to mention the balcony is a lovely place to converse, read, write, or to just listen to the rain drops if you're lucky enough to experience a Georgia thunderstorm. Cleanly, neat, and fairly minimal with a unique book collection, you'll want for nothing during your stay. But if you do, Richard or Will, the caretaker, will make sure you have it. Richard's place is what every Air BnB experience should be like. Quite possibly the best Air BnB experience I've ever had. Thanks for your hospitality, Richard & Will! I will be back. Savannah Recos: Tybee Island, The Public, Maté Factor, Sentient Bean, El Rocko's, American Legion, The Book Lady, Forsyth Park, Bonadventure Cemetery, Richard's Balcony.

Place is perfect for a couple visiting Savannah! Can walk or drive anywhere downtown. Apartment is clean and has all the necessities! Host provides you with local menus and literature about restaurants and things to do in the area. Close enough to hit Tybee Island for a day or two and even Hilton head. We could have stayed for weeks! You feel very safe and comfortable in the apartment with parking off the street. Would recommend to anyone.

The place is a perfect distance from the historic district. There is far less traffic in the area, but it is not a problem to walk to any of the historic sites. Richard provided some breakfast supplies - we especially loved the blueberry granola!

The carriage house and Richard, live up to the stellar reviews! Spacious, lots of natural light, beautifully decorated, with your own balcony, ac, books (!!!), comfy bed, and a dedicated parking spot. Richard is such a thoughtful host. Communication was prompt and open. He checked us in, explained how everything worked, gave us maps, and pretty much left us alone -- unless we needed help. Most airbnb spaces provide an empty fridge. Richard's had sodas, juice, bottled water, yoghurt, etc. There was coffee/tea and a bar of fancy chocolate! The bathroom also had every beauty product imaginable (in case you forget your, I don't know, makeup remover). Yes, the carriage house isn't in the thick of the action, but there are lots of restaurants/bars that are walking distance (including an addictive slider place), you can use the bikes provided (we didn't, unfortunately, cause it was raining), or Uber downtown for $6 (you're gonna be drinking anyways so...) It's such a picturesque place, perfect to unwind at the end of the day or for a writer's retreat! I highly recommend it.

If this place is available - book it! Richard is a fantastic host. This little gem of an apartment is clean, cozy and super cute. Having a parking spot is an awesome bonus, and the proximity to great restaurants, parks and bars makes this place the perfect home-base for your Savannah adventures.

Hello all -- Having lived and traveled all over the country and a good deal abroad, I can truly say Savannah is hands down one of the most beautiful towns anywhere ... I still keep calling it home. I can be a recluse even in a crowd, and this quality is what drew me to my house of 15 years -- it provides a wooded privacy in a centralized, urban setting. Once you get your keys and I get you oriented, I'm pretty hands off -- but always happy to answer any questions and give recommendations. You'll understand why this place is a secret hideaway in the middle of everything.
