I don't know where to start- we had such an amazing week at Monte Jazmin! The view: The view is truly spectacular. You could sit all day on the terrace watching the light change as the sun crosses the sky over the mountains. The sunsets glow for an hour and then the sky is full of twinkling stars. Santiago, Carmen and German's son, showed us how to use his telescope and see Venus which looked like a crescent moon. The flora and fauna: I have read here about the abundance of insects but not about the marvelous array of birds. German claims there are more different species of bird in that small region than there are in the entire United States. We saw hummingbirds, parrots, a big blue thing called a barranquero (?) and many, many others with indescribable colors. Little red squirrels run up and down the trees. And the flowers are lovely- many kinds, again, that I had never seen before. Yes, there were some bugs but we were not bothered by mosquitos at all. The hosts: German and Carmen are lovely people. They were always there to help and never made us feel we were being any bother. They were kind, knowledgeable and generous. When I felt ill one day, they made sure I had panela and lemon and ginger to make a tea. It worked. I was back on my feet the next day and ready for the gold museum in Armenia. Carmen and German’s daughter Jenny introduced us to a wonderful restaurant in Pereira called Latino where we had one of the two best meals of our whole trip. We owe a lot to this family for making this trip so rich and rewarding. Food: The food in this area is so fresh! We ate fresh hen’s eggs and milk straight from the cow- so fresh it wasn’t 100% homogenized and actually went bad in two days (which is what used to happen before preservatives). These were bought from roadside homes along the way. And the coffee is suburb. We brought back 4 lbs! Santiago gave us the full coffee class explaining everything we need to know about growing, preparing and tasting coffee. He speaks very good English. The mineral pool: Maybe our favorite part of the finca. There is a small natural pool formed by a stream just as it leaves the mountain. The water is cool and fresh and full of minerals. It may not be one of the Termales, but in the heat of the afternoon, it is SO refreshing and invigorating just to lounge around in. You can even drink the water straight from the stream. We were there every afternoon without fail. The best part of the day. The area: There is a lot to do and see around the finca. Ask if you can get Daniel to drive you around. He is a treasure, a great national resource. He took us all over the showed us things we would...

Our stay at Carmen's place ranks at the top of bookings we’ve had with Airbnb on 3 continents. Carmen's farm embodies everything we feel Airbnb is about. This trip immersed us in the culture of Colombia’s coffee region as we lived as peasants on the farm, enjoying day-to-day activities in its amazing surroundings.   I'm Colombian and have been in this region many times. We traveled there to let my husband, an American, experience this region first-hand. But we both learned many new things about coffee farming and production.   The farm offers close access to amazing Colombian sites we visited such as Valle de Cocora, Salento town and local thermal springs. The Coffee Park with amusement rides is heavily advertised, but it’s a bit far from the farm and has little to do with the genuine culture of this region, so it adds little to the experience for the price. But renting a Willy’s Jeep with a driver – prices are very reasonable – you can get a real taste of life in this region. A Jeep is needed to get on and off the farm, and though it was not the rainy season we got lots of rain, so the Jeep was necessary with the unpaved mountain roads.   Remember that this farm is in a tropical rain forest. I preferred having a net around the bed, and Carmen said they had one available though some guests had not wanted to use it. Carmen and her husband were very kind to set it up for us, and we feel it best to use in this environment to avoid being bothered by insects and other tropical creatures. The rooms were very clean with good mattresses, and we felt very comfortable having the net for protection. They cleaned and pick trash up during our stay.   I give Carmen and her husband German a status of Super-Super Hosts. They are genuinely friendly and did their best to make us feel happy and comfortable during our stay. They also gave us an amazing lesson about coffee.

This place was awesome!! Carmen Elena's farm house is more like a cabin house packed with everything you need. Santiago and German were super sweet. They helped us find our way to the house (we had rented a car). They were very very pleasant to meet, they were attentive towards us. I stayed with my bf and friend and we were very happy to have chosen this listing . The view from the house is breathtaking. It's so beautiful. Its a good place to get away for a couple of nights and relax. I do recommend bug spray for it is located in the mountains. The rooms include a net around the beds so the bugs won't be a bother during sleep. It was a very comfortable stay, i would definitely recommend any one to stay at Carmen Elena's home.

From the moment we arrived in Pereira's airport we were accommodate by Santiago who straightaway was helpful and polite. We arrived in the evening to all the dogs barking and it was a pleasant welcome by German and Carmen. Our stay at Monte Jazmin in the beautiful house and idilic surroundings was very special combine with the coffee process tour experience again just added a perfect relaxing holiday. The only issue with our stay was the wifi connection but the family did the best to help.

La finca esta en la zona rural de Pereira, alejada del ruido y del estres de la ciudad. Las frutas, la preparación del café y la visa te enamorarán.

This farm was very beautiful. The owners made us feel very welcome and as if we were family, they are also bilingual. The farm house had a very attractive view of the coffee plants and surrounding mountains. Keep in mind that this is a farm so you will be welcomed by insects and small animals, which is natural. The hosts did make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The food service was impeccable, some of the best breakfasts we had. We also enjoyed the rides into town on the awesome antique Jeep Willys. Also, this location is far from town but perfect for the farm experience. Also for a small additional fee they gave us a tour of their coffee farm that showed the process of harvesting all the way down to the roasting and tasting (very recommended).

Myself my boyfriend and our two friends spent 2 nights, and we had such an incredible time at Monte Jazmín from start to finish. Santiago (their son) picked us up from Pereira and brought us to the farm (and let us stop at the supermarket on the way too!) He spoke excellent English and was able to help us with all the questions we had, and was just so welcoming and helpful. We got picked up in the early afternoon on our first day so decided to do the coffee tour once we got the farm. I can't recommend this enough, Santi was our guide and we had an amazing afternoon of walking up into the plantation and drinking excellent coffee and learning all about the process. If you're braver than me Santi will bring you through the forest to the other side of the mountain to see the view as well! On our second day we did the paragliding which was amazing. The taxi costs 60k and the paragliding is 90k per person. The drive to the take off spot is worth it alone!!! The accommodation is basic, but perfect for what you need, and the outside space is just so beautiful you only go inside to sleep. Each morning the family offered us fresh brewed coffee and bananas and made sure we had everything we needed. They were such wonderful and hospitable hosts. We even got dropped back to the airport at the end of our stay. As other people have mentioned just be aware - you're staying on a farm in the mountains, there are A LOT of bugs, so just be prepared. I'd also recommend to make sure you bring plenty of food with you, however there are taxis available if you do run out of supplies and need to go back into pereira. All in all we couldn't recommend this place enough. A truly unique and special experience. Thank you so much for having us! Rebecca, Tom, Ciara & Ruth
