Grants Cottage is a newly-renovated, dog-friendly, Listed thatched village house under 10 minutes drive from beautiful, sandy beaches in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Perfect for summer or winter breaks. Large secure garden, Aga, wood burner, big kitchen/dining room, cosy sitting room, luxurious linens and comfortable super-king-sized beds.

Le logement

Grants Cottage occupies a pretty village setting, opposite the medieval church and water pump. Only ten minutes from the ferry, and the shops of nearby Newport. The historic coastal town of Yarmouth, with its individual shops and delicatessen, is also close by. There are many footpaths on the doorstep, leading up to and across the downs, affording spectacular scenery and breathtaking views.

Furnished with antiques and sumptuous soft-furnishings, the accommodation comprises a cosy sitting room with wood-burning stove, shelves stuffed with books and games, a flat screen 'Smart' television, DVD player and DVDs, and a Bose iPod dock with iPhone adapter. The kitchen is large, with dining and sitting areas. There is an Aga which is lit in the colder months, electric fan oven and hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher and a washing machine and tumble drier in a small, separate utility area. There is wifi access, and a desk situated in the hall, with ample workspace for a laptop, and a wireless printer provided. The downstairs bathroom has bath, electric shower, washbasin, WC, shaverpoint and heated towel rail. The small staircase leads to the first floor where there are two double bedrooms and one twin. There are two super-kingsized beds and two singles; but all the deep, pocket-sprung mattresses are zip-and-link and so may be split or combined as required. The two larger bedrooms have built in wardrobes, while the smaller twin room has a hanging rail and generous drawer space. Also upstairs is a WC, with washbasin and shaver point.

Outside there is a good-sized garden with plenty of lawn area and a terrace with large dining table and chairs. A lockable shed provides safe storage for sports equipment. The cricket pitch at the rear of the garden can be accessed, which in turn leads to tennis courts and a children's play area. The local pub is a couple of minutes' walk away, while the Island's pub of the year in nearby Shalfleet is just a five minute drive.

The cottage is perfect for summer holidays due to its proximity to the coast and the many attractions the Island offers, but also is fully heated and cosy enough for autumn and winter breaks when one can curl up with a good book in front of the wood-burner, or go for bracing walks on Tennyson Down followed by a delicious pub lunch, when the crowds have left. We are pet friendly and welcome one or two small, well-behaved dogs for an extra charge of £25.00 per dog.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

I don't live on the Island but am always available on the telephone or by email, and there is a local housekeeper who can deal with any queries or problems should they arise.

The pictures make Grants Cottage look good but don't do it justice, upon arriving you are greeted by the most idyllic chocolate box cottage that is well kempt and very welcoming, inside the cottage the theme continues with well thought out decor and furnishings and a 'no expense spared' feel in every room, what surprised me the most was that for such an old cottage you weren't at all inconvenienced by compromise, every room has lots of plug sockets, the bathrooms are well appointed and feel modern yet fit in well with the period cottage. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can't wait for our next visit to Calbourne, a big thank you to our attentive host Lizzie for making us feel so welcome.

Grants Cottage really is a beautiful cottage in a lovely village setting. It has a real home away from home feel and has everything you could want in a holiday home. The decor and attention to detail was amazing and Lizzie really has thought of everything. We really enjoyed our time there and would not hesitate to book again. We would definitely recommend Grants Cottage to anyone looking to visit the Isle of Wight.

We have just returned from a week's stay at Grants Cottage. Our family had such a wonderful stay and were very sad to leave. As soon as we arrived we felt completely at home. We thoroughly enjoyed the bottle of bubbly and scones that Elizabeth provided us with. I highly recommend a stay at Elizabeth's cottage if you are visiting the Isle of Wight. It's in a beautiful cottage set in a beautiful location. We will definitely be returning. :) Thank you Elizabeth, Anna

The cottage was excellent - comfortable, well decorated and well equipped, and although there were only four of us, there was easily enough room for a full set of 6 ocuppants. Lovely big garden, which is fully fenced and thus idea for dogs. Well located for exploring the Isle of Wight. Well worth the money - we would not only recommend it, we may well return for another trip ourselves.

We would most definitely highly recommend Grants cottage-we had such a comfortable, enjoyable stay. The cottage was spotless and provision excellent, with soft, high quality sheets and towels, a lovely 'welcome' basket of goodies and milk in the fridge so we didn't have to wait for a cup of tea! Elizabeth thinks of everything in her information pack so that you feel at home quickly and know how the house works and what there is to do close by. The mattresses are very soft-I loved this and found them super cosy but just worth mentioning as everyone has their preferences! The village shop in the neighbouring village sells outstanding fresh produce-do use it. We just loved it here and very much hope to return in the future.

This wonderful cottage is a very special place to stay. I had high expectations, but even these were exceeded. Everything was of the standard that you would expect in a really good country hotel. The location is central and so it's ideal for exploring all of the island. The decor and furnishings are of the highest quality and this is by far the best equipped kitchen that we have ever encountered. It was so good that we decided to eat in rather than go out as we enjoyed the cottage so much. Furthermore, after a good walk each day followed by dinner and a DVD by the fire we all slept very well in the superb luxury beds. We will return.

This is the perfect holiday cottage. It's well located and beautifully finished inside and out. Great to find such a dog friendly house and great for local walks and short hops to the beach and the downs. Would highly recommend the house and the host!
