Description

Come and visit a house full of history.
A stunning and quirky medieval timber framed home, with large kitchen, living room and 5 bed rooms. Ideally for 10 people, but an additional sofa bed will squeeze another coupe in if really needed.

The house has a wonderful kitchen diner in which there is room for 10 people to sit around a large table. It is well equipped with all the items needed for a large group to enjoy themselves

There is a large lounge with a magnificent inglenook fireplace (now housing the large 50" TV) with seating for at least 10 people and also another smaller lounge for 4 people. Both rooms have flat screen televisions with satellite reception and DVD players.

Wifi is also available throughout most of the building.

The smaller lounge has a sofa bed, which could be used as an additional or alternative sleeping space.

All these rooms are heavily timbered and have a twelve foot high ceiling.

Also on the ground floor is a utility room fitted with a dish washer, washing machine, tumble dryer and an additional sink together with the downstairs shower and w/c.

On the Jacobian staircase is a door to a little low hide-away with two chairs - ideal for the ones amongst you who want a little space to read perhaps.

On the first floor is a large master bedroom with a four poster bed, another good size double bedroom with an amazing stone fireplace, a smaller room with two single beds and a landing with more sitting space. All these bedrooms have Jacobian wall paintings that were rediscovered in recent years.

Also on the first floor is a luxurious bathroom with a double ended free standing bath and a huge walk-in shower, all recently installed.

The second floor comprises of 2 smaller bedrooms with two single beds in each.

The property has full gas fired central heating with an adjustable thermostat and unlimited hot water from a combination boiler.

There is parking for 2 vehicles on site and free parking nearby, plus a small outside seating area with table and chairs.

You book the whole house, so all areas (apart from the inaccessible loft space!) are available to you.

We endeavour to meet you on your arrival, but this is not always possible. However we make arrangements for you to get into the house at your chosen time of arrival.
If you are on holiday and need somebody to guide you around places in Kent, please get in touch. We are in the business of that as well.

Edenbridge has all amenities needed - supermarkets, pubs, banks, a park and even two railway stations going into London in less than an hour or all across Kent and Surrey. Gatwick Airport is easily accessible by rail.

Attractions nearby are Hever Castle, Winston Churchills home Chartwell House, Chiddingstone National Trust village and castle, Penshurst Place, Royal Tunbridge Wells, Lingfield Park Racecourse, Knole Park in Sevenoaks and there are many others.

There are nice country walks all around the area and fishing in the local river Eden.

The area is also used for other country pursuits, such as riding, hunting, golf and race courses.

Edenbridge itself has a long history. It lays at a paved Roman Road from AD 100 which was going along today's High Street. This street was vital for the transport of iron found in nearby Ashdown Forest. The Weald - a large forest to the south of here - was otherwise difficult to cross in times gone past.

The river going through the town is called Eden after an Anglo Saxon chief named Eadhelm. Because he build a bridge it was henceforth Eadhelmbridge. Things get shortened after time and now it's Edenbridge.

In the 15th century nearby Hever castle with its occupants the Bullen's rose to prominence at court and the most illustrious Anne Boleyn grew up there to become King Henry VIIIs second wife, to bear him a daughter and later successful Queen Elizabeth I and to die a traitors death.

However this rise of the Bullen's may has contributed to Wyllyam Taylour chosing nearby Edenbridge for his country retreat.

The 16th century saw Edenbridge and the surrounding area raise to wealth again with the iron industry only to decline in early 1800s with this industry going elsewhere.

But this didn't last long, because when the railways came in the mid 1800s they chose Edenbridge as a crossing point. This is evident today as the town still has two stations with one line going north and south and the other going east and west. Back then the trains were used to carry farm produce; today it's commuters.

Taylour House is situated on the High Street in Edenbridge, United Kingdom. This is particularly easy to reach by car, but if you want to arrive by plane and train, then Edenbridge Town station is a ten minute walk away.

The house is part of a courtyard and we expect visitors to respect residents around them. Due to a recent group behaving badly we need you to put special attention to the house rule of low noise levels especially during the night.

The main rule is that we want you to enjoy your stay. Its a great house to have a celebration. However, please keep the house in good order. All the utilities are included, but please do not waste resources by leaving everything running at full.
Also due to recent issues, you have to agree to be respectful to the neighbours. It is vital you don't move your celebrations into the courtyard as most of the people living around there have bedrooms leading to the courtyard. If somebody ask to turn down the volume, you need to do exactly that!!!
Children are welcome, but please get in touch before you book instantly, we have only one baby travel cot available and I want to make sure your children are comfortable as well.
No smoking anywhere in the house!!! You can smoke outside, but being neighbourly-rules apply.
Regarding pets, please get in touch, as sometimes we do allow a well behaved dog to come along.
