Newly renovated Victorian cottage, set in the heart of Downieville. Nestled between 2 rivers, the cottage offers a relaxing retreat. Swim, bike, fish, walk or simply watch the world go by in this Sierra goldmine town, surrounded by nature.
Our family loves our cottage. In the winter there's nothing like snuggling up and sitting around the fire playing board games. In the summer it's all about the outdoors. Sit on the porch and watch the world go by, explore the Sierra's all around you, or be adventurous and try out the famous downhill mountain bike rides.
The cottage backs onto the hill and has a large garden extending up the mountain. There's a very small pond on the hill so watch out if you have very young kids.
The garden is terraced with dry stone walls all the way back and offers great views and walks straight up the hill. Tread with caution as the hill is steep.
We've set up the backyard for BBQ'ing with a large bench. Enjoy the fresh air, turn off the gas for the BBQ when done and avoid leaving food or garbage out at night. It tends to give the bears indigestion!
All houses in the area run on a septic tank so guests need to be careful what is put in the toilet.
