The best things about this unit are the location and the host. You could not ask for a more central location on the UES. Shops, restaurants, public transit, and grocery stores of all kinds are at your fingertips. Central Park and Museum are literally blocks away.
The host is extremely helpful and responsive at all times, including nights and weekends. If there's a problem, the host genuinely tries to resolve it to the guest's total satisfaction.
The unit was not as clean as I would have liked it upon move in, and I think it really should be professionally cleaned between guests.
The unit is located on a prime thoroughfare, which means lots of street noise, for those whom that bothers.
There is no temperature control in the unit, as the boiler is controlled by the super. In winter, you have to alter the climate by opening and closing windows, which is less than ideal. I understand this is not uncommon in older buildings in Manhattan, but if you require precise climate control, this unit may present some difficulties in that regard.
The unit is definitely no frills, but the photos accurately display what you can expect.
The bathroom may be the best part of the unit -- it is marble with a nice pedestal sink, and the hot water is fantastic (the water pressure is fine).
The kitchen is functional, although there is only the most basic equipment with which to cook (a nice kitchen store is 2 blocks away, however).
The building does not have laundry facilities; there is a wash and fold around the corner, but if you require machines, you have to walk at least five blocks.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay, and the host did everything they could to help out wherever needed.
