Silver Tussock is a warm & comfortable modern home perfect for a relaxing holiday. You will have the use of the whole house including a laundry with washing machine, laundry powder and clothes dryer.

Part of the relaxed feeling at Silver Tussock Holiday Home comes from the well-equipped kitchen including basic baking ingredients, herbs and spices for guests to use. There is an extensive library of books on New Zealand natural history, geology, world travel guides, NZ history as well as a selection of novels for you to enjoy during your stay. We also have a selection of magazines, and for the kids, some great kiwi children's books and toys. Not to mention the extensive music collection, various games and a selection DVDs on New Zealand Natural History that you won't want to miss!

The two main bedrooms have sliding doors that open out onto a covered veranda with views of the Kepler mountains. Each bed has electric blankets for cold nights and oil column heaters are available for the bedrooms if you should need them on chilly evenings.

Our home is surrounded by New Zealand native plantings that provide a stunning outlook from both inside and out. For the true botanists we have a New Zealand alpine rock garden beside the paved patio. A gas BBQ is available for your use. What better way to relax than with a wine or beer and a BBQ at the outdoor dining table? The native plantings and mountain views provide a perfect setting for a summer meal.

The back section of our house is fully fenced and safe for young children. We have an organic vegetable garden, berries, fresh herbs and a glass house that produce well during the summer season - please help yourself.

A range of brochures on local walks and attractions, scenic drives, boat and helicopter trips are available and we can assist with bookings or advice if required. Please also see our AirBnB Guide Book for hot tips on places to visit in Te Anau and Fiordland. We recommend staying a minimum of two nights in Te Anau if you are planning a visit to Milford Sound. The drive through to Milford Sound is something you don't want to rush with a number of short walks and camera stops along the way. And then you'll need time to soak up the quaint atmosphere of Te Anau township and explore some other amazing sights in Fiordland.

On your arrival you will find a selection of teas, milo, plunger coffee, fresh milk and some classic kiwi biscuits to help you settle in.

**We have FREE unlimited WIFI for your convenience**

You'll have the whole house to yourselves during your stay. There are 3 bedrooms, a bathroom with bath and shower, separate toilet and laundry with washing machine and dryer. A modern heat pump will keep you toasty warm on cold days.

The kitchen is well equipped with modern appliances. Please help yourselves to herbs, spices and other basic food ingredients from the pantry. Fresh herbs and vegetables are seasonally available from our organic garden and glass house.

The backyard is fully fenced and there is plenty of driveway space for parking vehicles or a boat.

Your hosts live nearby but won't disturb you during your stay. However, if you do need some help, we are only a phone call away. We can also provide advice and help with booking local trips if required.

Our house is only 10 minutes walk from the town centre where there are numerous options for dining out; as well as supermarkets, sports and clothing shops and anything else you might require. Te Anau is the gateway to the World Heritage Fiordland National Park with its famous walking tracks and fabulous scenery. A visit to Milford Sound is a must. You should allow a full day as the drive is 2 hours each way and a cruise on the sound (highly recommended) takes at least another 2 hours. In addition, there are a number of excellent short walks along the scenic drive to Milford Sound. You can either travel by private car or take one of the many tour options.
Doubtful Sound is another spectacular sound which can be visited either as a long day trip or on an overnight trip, sleeping on board one of the very comfortable boats. For the adventurous travellers, kayaking is a fantastic experience on either Milford or Doubtful Sounds.

Te Anau is a small town where all facilities are within walking distance. For a good coffee and tasty food our local recommendations are Sandfly Café or The Fat Duck Cafe and Restaurant. For a top quality evening meal book at Redcliff Cafe and Bar.
Our local cinema has a 30 minute film called "Ata Whenua" - which show cases the stunning scenery in the World Heritage Fiordland National Park. This is a must see movie and you can enjoy a local pinot, lager or coffee at the same time!
If you've got time a flight over the mountains is well worth it - our recommendations would be with Fiordland Helicopters or our local float plane operator.
A day walk along the Kepler Track takes you through native beech forest with stunning views across Lake Te Anau. Just drive 5Kms to the outlet of Lake Te Anau where you will find the start of the track.
For an excellent free attraction, visit the Te Anau Bird Sanctuary where you can view some rare New Zealand birds up close - such as takahe, kaka and ruru (morepork or owl) . Across the road from the bird sanctuary, Ivon Wilson Park is another attraction with its beautiful planted trees and small lake stocked with brook trout for children's fishing. If you are keen on mountain biking try out the trails adjacent to Ivon Wilson Park, or the brand new trail alongside the Waiau River between Lakes Te Anau and Manapouri.
Visit the Department of Conservation Visitor Centre (at it's stunning location on the lakefront) for information and brochures on local walks and other attractions in the area.

We provide all the bedding and towels you will need for your stay. There are electric blankets on the beds for those cold winter nights and hot water bottles if you need them.

Children under 5 are free of charge. Pay just $10/night for kids up to 16 years of age.

The cleaning fee is included in the basic charge and hence guests are asked to do a quick clean before they depart. If guests are short of time they may request a cleaning service for an additional $50. Rooms are not serviced during your stay.

I love living next to Fiordland National Park in the most scenic part of New Zealand! I recently retired from permanent employment having worked for the Department of Conservation in Te Anau for 26 years. My husband Simon and I are keen cycle tourers and usually spend the NZ winters touring overseas in warmer countries! In 2014/15 we spent 10 months in South America, cycling 14,000kms from the bottom of South America; through Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador. We usually return to NZ to do summer field work in Fiordland and surrounding areas. I work as a botanist monitoring native plants and Simon works on conservation programmes to protect our special native birds. We are both keen environmentalists and love the outdoors, especially Fiordland!
My 3 children (adults now) grew up in Silver Tussock home, where my daughter Jo and I now enjoy hosting our Airbnb guests. Jo and husband Phil (who manages the conservation of the rare takahe bird) have one awesome 3 year old son called Zac and another one due soon.
We love to share our family home and hope we can promote the message of treasuring the wonderful environment we live in - and protecting it for future generations.
