Description

Le logement

Hi, my name is Annie and Burrs farm has been my family home until very recently. After many years of happy memories I am opening my home up for others to come and enjoy. If you'd like to make a booking or have an enquiry please send me an let me know the date you want to start your holiday, the number of nights you'd like to stay, and the number in your party and we will do our best to accommodate your needs. Please be aware that we only take midweek bookings through this site. If you would like to make a weekend booking (fri-mon) you can still book through If you'd like to discuss your holiday, or perhaps we can help in some other way, please do feel free to call.

You approach the house down a long private drive with private parking for at least 10 cars in front of the house. Burrs farm is a lovely bright, spacious farmhouse retaining lots of character and decorated in tasteful light neutral colours throughout. You enter the house through the formal entrance hall with stone flagged floors, wide oak staircase and galleried landing.

To the right is the main lounge with luxurious soft furnishings, comfortable deep seated sofas which are gathered around the original triple stone fire place. You can enjoy a roaring fire in the log burning stove (some logs are provided to get you going).

Through the dining room there is a second sitting room/games room with yet another beautiful feature fire place. There is a pool table for rainy days or simply as an alternative place to watch TV, play on the wii or read the papers. This room has plenty of natural light with french doors leading out onto the gardens.

At the far end of the hall there is a door leading into the lovely wooden painted super-sized country kitchen with polished flagged floors, definitely the heart of the home. It is well stocked with all the equipment and mod cons you need to self cater for large groups and would not be complete without an authentic aga warming the house. To complement the aga, there are alternative cooking methods with a split level oven and hob. Perfect for prepping delicious holiday meals, you just need to remember the food! We provide fridge/freezers, dishwashers, electric ovens and hobs, microwaves and washing machines and dryer. There is also a table that seats 6 in front of the double doors that lead out onto the patio and gardens.

Leading off this room there is a larder/store room, a large fitted utility room with separate toilet and a small inner hall/boot room.

Next door to the kitchen is a more formal dining room which is set up for 16 but with the additional table from the kitchen you can comfortably dine 18/20. There is also a log burner set in a large stone surround in the dining room.

On the first floor you will find four large bedrooms which are all of a good size. It is hard to name one as the master suite as they are all beautifully presented and enjoy marvellous views. Three of the bedrooms have private facilities with en suite shower rooms and the forth has use of the large family bathroom opposite with a roll top bath and double size shower enclosure. There is also an alternative stair case to the rear of the property.

A second staircase leads to the top floor with a further three good sized bedrooms tucked into the eaves creating wonderful country style bedrooms. Two of the rooms use the family bathroom on the first floor just at the bottom of the stair case and one has private facilities of an en suite. The property can sleep up to a total of 20 guests (if requested, we do have a sofa bed in the second sitting room). To offer total flexibility all bedrooms can be made into twin and or king sized doubles to offer a room set up for all types of groups.

Your beds are made up for your arrival and we provide fresh towels, hand soap and shower gel for added comfort for each guest.

Guests will have access to all the ground floor facilities and gardens and to the appropriate number of bedrooms required for the size of the party. Any bedrooms not in use will be kept locked.

While you will have complete privacy I greet my guests on arrival whenever possible to give you a little welcome tour and make sure you have everything you need. After that I am only 15 mins away and can be on hand should you need me at all throughout your stay. In case of late arrivals I also have a security key lock.

Le quartier

You must also make the most of the exceptional location for walking, cycling and outdoor pursuits with the two nearby off road bike routes of the Monsal Trail and Tissington and High Peak Trial. Although you are in a rural position you are only a 15/20 minute walk to a village pub The Church Inn in Chelmorton, just a 5 minute drive to the award winning Royal Oak pub, and 2.2 miles from the start of the Monsal Trail – where you can hire bikes at Blackwell Cycle hire and even abseil from the viaduct at Millers Dale.

The Derbyshire famous spa town of Buxton is a short 10 minute drive and is known as the capital of the Peak District National Park. Most notable architecture comprises of The Crecent which is modelled on Baths Royal Crecent, the Devonshire dome a large unsupported 44 metre dome which beats St Pauls Cathedral of 34 metres and the famous Buxton Opera House designed by Frank Matcham in 1903, which is and is the highest opera house in the country. Attached to the Opera House is the Pavilion Gardens, designed by Edward Milner, covering 23 acres of gardens and ponds. Buxton is home to Poole's Cavern, an extensive limestone cavern open to the public, and St Ann's Well,by the Crescent which is fed by a geothermal spring.

The Peak District offers enchanting villages, historic towns such as Ashbourne and Bakewell and glorious ever changing landscapes are all close by. Perhaps best known as walking country, the Peak District National Park offers a spectacular variety of scenery and routes to be explored – from steep sided limestone dales to the dramatic high moorlands. There is something for everyone – individuals, families and groups – whether you want a challenging hike or a short stroll.

Around the surrounding area of Buxton you will find the Blue John Caverns, Monsal Trial, The Tissington and High Peak Trail, Go Ape Adventure Park, The Goyt Valley, Dovedale, Chatsworth House, Tissington and Haddon Hall where several costume dramas have been filmed for the BBC, are all within an easy drive. Alton towers Resort provides enough excitement even for the most ardent fun seeker is within a 25 minute drive too. It's a perfect retreat for all family and friends reunions.

Transports

The nearest airport is Manchester International (one hour by car): good services to London, Europe, USA, and the Middle and Far East. East Midlands Airport is just over an hour away. Macclesfield station (20 minutes drive) is on the London-Manchester main line (London 1 hour 40 minutes). Buxton station (10 minutes by taxi) is at the end of a local line from Blackpool and Manchester. Avis have a car rental office at Macclesfield station. Enterprise Car Hire operate a local pick-up service.

We kindly ask that you adhere to the no smoking policy indoors, there are plenty of available outside spaces, and that you treat the house with care and respect and leave it in the condition you find it. Please note we are dog friendly at Burrs Farm however, there are horses and sheep in the surrounding fields so dogs must be kept under control at all times. For your information, a maximum of two dogs are allowed on site if pre arranged - we ask that you keep them off the carpeted areas and on the tiled floors only. There is plenty of space for pets to ram and be comfortable in the kitchen and utility room.

Annie was there to welcome us. She had provided milk bread and butter. She showed us round and said to contact her at anytime. She also helped us jump start the car as we were leaving. Very friendly lady.

Great house. We were having a family reunion and it was comfortable, quiet, clean and spacious. The surroundings were lovely and we were able to gor for lovely walks. The host was friendly and helpful and the house had everything we needed.
